I've been working in my current role as a lifeguard for over 6 years.
I'm a casual employee, which means I don't have benefits such as holidays or sick pay. I work for local Government.
I've always been casual, and on several occasions applied for contracts and been knocked back.
My current post I've been working set shifts, every week, for over 2 years.. Along with several casuals. They decided they were going to create these into a permanent posts and I then had to apply for my job again and go through the interview process. 29 applicants and 24 posts.
I've just received an email telling me I've been unsuccessful.
I'm absolutely shocked, I'm good at my job, a lot better than others. I work hard too. But we don't have a line manager present so nobody really know exactly how much work I do.
I'm angry at my employer for royally shafting me and I'm curious as to where I stand, because I'm sure there is a set period of time when working set shifts, that you are entitled to a contract?
