Spec me a entry level dslr please folks

I think that is a bit misleading against a DSLR. Image Quality on the Nex is as good as any entry level DSLR as are the controls available, I use full manual controls or either P or S mode with no problems, It took a few weeks of constant use to be used to the differences against other cameras but that's true of all different makes and models as well. Now additional lens will improve the DSLR but it still costs to get them and as stated the Nex is getting better over the next 18 months.

IAuto and Scene modes are excellent and the firmware update introduces new things like single colour shooting, peaking for manual focusing. My wife has no issue with using iAuto as well as panaoramic mode.

It shoots raw, Jpeg or raw+Jpeg as well so allows full processing of raw files as well.

While there are no direct dials to turn it operates exaxctly like an SLR. From having a histogram on the live view to all relevant information needed on display.

The Macro is due in October and there is still no confimration on any of the other lens.

I have the ultra wide adapter which turns the 16mm in to a 12mm Ultra Wide and it's a great little item, fisheye to follow.

Really I would go try them out in Jessops or any other retailer to get a feel before deciding as sometimes it's how it feels rather to handle that can be a deciding factor. I have really small hands and found some of the DSLR's much too big to get comfy with hence my choice.

Problem I have with Jessops the one locally is quite small and unlikely to stock the NEX 3 although I could take a look in the week. I would likely have to travel some distance just to 'try' one out which is a bit awkward at the mo. I have pretty big hands as it goes - so maybe the NEX is too small for me in reality. I'm stuck.

Jessops have no stock of NEX3 left anywhere, thats the problem me and the other half had when she wanted one ... its been phased out slowly. Managed to find out in Bestbuy though :)

If you go into Jessops, try the NEX-5. . it feels pretty similar (although more metallic compared to the NEX-3) but you should get a feel for it.

Right - in that case I will likely try Jessops for the NEX 5 tomorrow and see what they have. I do prefer the aesthetics of the 5 over the 3, although that is a minor issue. With the 5, its 1080 isn't it? I'm just thinking whether I'd be better off with a 5 over the 3 anyway.

Just popped into town - the local Jessops had shut down , but I managed to find an independent who were reasonably helpful. I tried the Nikon 3100 and it felt really solid, and was comfortable for me and my meat cleavers. They wanted £500 for it though ! So I'll be purchasing online. They didn't have any NEX either, so I couldn't directly compare. I've a feeling the NEX would be too small for me however judging by what I've seen so far. I'm still in two minds really, although I'm swaying towards the Nikon. I can get that for £429 which is pretty good. The Sony is quite a lot more.

Have you thought about the Panasonic GH2, very DSLR'ish, and yet a decent compact size, if you dont mind missing a VF, then there is a G3, though that might be a bit out of budget?
