Making money through advertising.

I just managed to get my hands on a site that gets a fairly decent amount of traffic...

In the region of:

- 8500 Pageviews a day
- 1500 Visits a day
- 500-600 Unique Visitors a day

It's a forum to discuss a certain MMO.

So, what's the best way to monitize this instead of me paying for the privilage of all these lovely people talking to each other every month?

If successful, look at privately managed advertisement.

forums at generally harder to monetise than regular sites. Best thing to do is google ads and sell banner space.

My guess:

500 people per day, 1% click rate, $0.50-$1.50 per ad.

= £2.50 to £5 a day?

Depends on the userbase, but 1% sounds to me VERY VERY generous...

Gamers are pretty hard to make decent cash out of, especially gamer forums.

Google will be a waste of time, very low ctr and very low cpc for that sort of niche. There many better options.

The first thing I'd try would be CPA offers for various f2p web games. Give me a shout (email in trust) if you want a referral into any of the CPA networks, I can recommend some good ones.
