My New PC, Possibly.

You use them to install the OS and a few of your favorite games/apps, then have another normal harddrive for storage.

SSd that Solid State Drive is that right? Storage amounts always seem so small on them. Mind you i know nothing about SSd drives.

These are very quick and handy for operating systems and most used programs.

I been using one since last August and would never go back to a mechanical drive for the operating system.

I'd like to say a big thank you to all who have taken time to offer advice and suggestion. I will need now to go through all these different suggestions and equate some prices and see what transpires. Please carry on with your input, i really, really appreciate it, but for now i'd like to say goodnight to everyone and no doubt we will converse some more. Many, many thanks.

But as I said at the beginning, i'm no expert so I would still like you to take a look at my list and give me your opions and ideas as to if I could do anything better, or even more so, cheaper would be nice. But I do'nt want to sacrifice quality for cost. If it costs a little more, i'll just save up a little longer. Not like I have no pc at the moment, if that was the case, I would'nt be speaking to you now. So any help or advise is welcome. Many thanks to all who have contributed up to now and the same to those who might help in the future. But do'nt leave it to long, I want to get the damn thing up and running LOL!!!!

1. why a WD Black?
2. Do you really need a sound card?
3. If you buy here, get the Win 7 OEM + WD Blue bundle (£100).
4. You have a super expensive motherboard and a low end graphics card. Maybe balance it a bit.
5. two optical drives? If you are on a budget, it's a sort of luxury you can do without and get £15 towards beter components.
6. same for the SSD, but fair enough.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £156.98
1 x Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £144.98
1 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £116.99
1 x Crucial RealSSD M4 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive £91.99
1 x XFX Pro 750W Core Edition Power Supply £74.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 7 Bundle - Home Premium 64 Bit £68.40
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) £29.99
1 x Antec 100 One Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £41.99
1 x Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM3) £38.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX) £34.99
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £14.99
Total : £831.78 (includes shipping : £13.75).

Can save a few bucks in that build. XFX 650W PSU, cheaper cooler, like a Gelid Tranquillo / A50 / Hyper 212+, cheaper motherboard although this packs everything you'd ever need, and is well designed.

Or even just go with single GPU in mind, get a 6950, and a Antec 620W on offer. Or just save a few bucks and forget Xfire.

If you leave the SSD, then you have a lot more room for the rest of the components. With Z68, you can reduce your requirements for the SSD (30GB) and add one later (IIRC) with Intel SRT technology.

Antec case similarly priced as the Zalhman, so whichever works for you.

my £0.02.

Hi Olivier.

Firstly thank you for all the trouble you must have gone to to compile this list of possible parts for my pc build.
There are only two things i have to comment on.
One is the Case, i like the ZALMAN Z9 Plus and do'nt like the look of the ANTEC Case.
Purely and simply my own personal taste, sorry.
Two is the fact that in your calculations and choices, you have left out my Blu-Ray RW Optical Drive.
Blu-Ray playability is something i need and Blu-Ray writability is something i'd like.
Other than those, you selection is superb and something definately to consider.
Many thanks again.

To everyone else, please keep the ideas coming, it's giving me lot's of choices and lot's of welcome advice, which i desperately need.
Many thanks to everyone else.

speccing is quick (see signature) :)

I have nothing against the Zalman, just to get the price of the build roughly in the same ballpark.

Best luck with the build.

Many thanks for the best wishes. I have taken everyones advice on board, just the case, i like it. Do'nt know why but it suits my needs, comes with plenty of cooling and i think it's a good midway choice between value and quality. Does it for me anyway. Time will tell if i have made the right choice. Just one of those chances you take in life. Thanks anyway for all your input, it was very much appreciated.

Hello To Everyone.

Just thought i'd let you know i made up my mind on all the components to build my new pc. Hopefully it will be as good as i hope. I'm quite pumped up now in anticipation of everything arriving. So i suppose from that remark you can gather i have ordered all the parts and i am just waiting now for them to arrive. I can't wait to get started. Many thanks to all who gave advice, i really appreciate it. All that remains now is to list everything i've ordered and to ask for comments on what you think about how the system should perform.

Here Goes Nothing.

Well, it'll work. The graphics card is a bit of a wimp, but since you have considered your options and believe the 5830 will do what you want, then go for it. The motherboard is very good as well.

Hi Olivier.

I know the graphics card is'nt the best, but i was looking at it this way. What i have now i can afford, and the view is i can upgrade the card at some future time when i have saved some more pennies. Thanks for your input anyway. Probably be asking advice again soon about best card to buy on the budget i hope to have.

Hi Chris.

Thank you for your input, i have looked at your suggestions and half taken them on board. Hopefully i will be able to play the lower end gaming. Has i explained when i first asked for advice, i'm not a massive game player but hope to be able to upgrade in the not to distant future so i can then play better games. But for now it will do and i will be back in the not to distant future for suggestions for a much better graphics card, just need to save some more money. I know the 5850 is only £27.00 more than the 5830 but i would rather wait and get something better in the future, something around £200 to £250 providing my setup will handle a card of that spec. ld like some suggestions even now so i can do some research and pick the best i can not only afford but will work well on my system. As to the mobo, i'm quite happy with what i have chosen, i think i should be able to upgrade the graphics on it quite well. Again suggestions please about the possibility of upgrading graphics and how far i could go with this particular mobo etc. I thought something like the 6950 or 6970 ????

That will work, but will block the PCI-E 1X slots underneath the 16X slot, at least two of them thats for sure.
