Is the DG834G still a good 'all-rounder?'

Hi guys,

I'm setting up a new home network for a friend and I need some router advice...

Back in the day I set up a lot of the above for people and they were without issue; I'd set them up and that would be it - job done ;)

There are still a few places selling them new, knocking them out for around £60 (I used to pay £34 for the v5!), but I was wondering if there is anything else I should be looking at? Most site's reviews give mixed feedback on most routers under £100, there doesn't seem to be any out and out replacement for the netgear - including their subsequent releases!

Can anyone suggest anything? Excluding the billion - that would be complete overkill :D

Cheers!

Its still the most likely to just work on troublesome lines... that said the wireless on them can be a bit flaky.

Hmm, I've been led to believe that the billion 7800n is the new king of the flaky line :D

I'll be picking one up myself for my line at the end of the month to replace my own 834g - which, incidentally, I don't have any issues with wirelessly?

The guy whose kit I'll be setting up has a good line, I just want him to have something reliable and reasonably priced...

I wonder why none of the new, lower end netgear stuff gets good reviews

What new Netgear stuff are you talking about?

Search that famous auction site for the DG834GT, can get them for around £20 then tandem it to a DIR615 for ~£15, flashed with DD-WRT and you have a very decent stable ADSL set up imo :)

Ive got a line thats just been 'upgraded'

Now the connection drops frequently and it shows as interleaved though in theory its connected full speed, can anyone recommend a good cheap wireless router. Do we need adsl2+ rated one now, present one is speedtouch 550
