Hi,

I wondered whether anyone could help me with a slight issue I have.

I have cracked my iPhone 3gs screen, I have had it for longer than my contract period, which I have taken down to a simplicity one, and kept the phone insurance. I have just got off the phone to the o2 phone insurance people and they want £100 excess to cover the cost. A few queries I have:

What is the point of phone insurance, I have paid £10 a month for 22 months for what?

Can people on Market stalls repair this type of thing? Can I get it repaired anywhere else?

Shall I ring up 02 cancellations and request a pac code and move. Was holding out for an iPhone5, which I do not think I will be able to get now.

Any help as to what my best option would be would be greatfully received.

Many Thanks

No idea? I guess most use it for cover against theft.

Yep or you can do it yourself for very little money.

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/insurance says it's £50 excess? You got conned, phone insurance from the networks is a giant money maker for them, costs to them are hilariously low. You can get the same insurance from either your bank (usually through primer tier accounts), house insurance companies or other mobile insurance companies direct, usually for around £4-5 a month.

Spoken to the insurance people and it is beacuase I am only paying £10 a month instaed of £15.

Girl in the shop couldn't really help, so will try the market tomorrow, not keen on having a go myself.

£15 on the flea bay and you can get a new screen and frame for your iphone.

Plenty of vids on the Tube on how to carry out the replacement, but is 2 screws, a bit of leverage, 3 connectors and Robert is your fathers brother...all done

Takes 15 mins to change and you then have working phone.

That seems cheap if it includes the frame? Most charge that for the glass/digitiser alone - its quite a tricky job to do properly if you don't get the whole frame as the glass/gasket is a pita to remove. Every 3G/3GS I've seen with replacement glass has ended up with dust under the screen after a while.

Walk into the apple shop and ask what they can do.....

I know someone personally, that went in and said what can you do with a cracked screen. They said, we will replace it f.o.c for a refurb. He was quite shocked tbh, due to the fact he bought it second hand too.

Worth a try for nothing?
