Spec my friend the ultimate machine...

I added a bit above about the 3D glasses, seen many reports of people feeling ill/headaches/woozy using them, I say ditch them.

I've had a lot of people try my 3D Vision kit and leant the glasses to a few others who have 120Hz panels and very few people had problems with headaches or feeling sick, most people had no problems with them, 1-2 people found the effect didn't work too great for them or found it gave them headaches.

I do find tho that after longer sessions of useage (30-40 minutes) I feel slightly nauseous for a few minutes once I take the glasses off tho, while the effect works great tho they make most games a bit more effort to play or you just can't play them as fluidly and comfortably as you can in regular 2D so most people end up just not using them after the first couple of weeks - I've not touched mine in months.

so going over the amount of VRAM on the card doesnt do much to framerates then? because clearly if you go slightly over on some games at 1080p resolution, you will go a lot more over at 2560x1600 resolution.

well, it saves the OP a bunch of money at any rate.

YOUR BASKET
3 x Samsung S27A950D 27" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Ultra Thin LED Monitor - Glossy Black £599.99

Sorry, cant 3d vision surround that, that monitor only works single monitor 3d. Also doesn't support 3d vision.

if the person in question wants to do 3D surround at any sort of decent settings, then they are going to have to spend a hell of a lot on their PC. personally i think the two SSD's in raid is a waist of £200, and the sound card might be a waist of money, but other than that, its all pretty neccessary for 3D surround.

having a look at the few benchmarks around, 2x480's in SLI will go down to 30FPS in a lot of games in 3D surround, which to some people will be unacceptable

I'm quite skeptical about 3D Vision tbh, I'd lay good money on the person buying this machine barely if at all using it after the first couple of weeks.

Well aware of the performance issues - my GTX470 SLI setup only just about cut it for 1680x1050 in 3 way surround and definitely wouldn't handle multiple 1920x panels.

You thinking 30" Dell IPS?

If the buyer isn't a hardcore FPS player then definitely thinking something along those lines. One of the things definitely worth throwing a lot of money at is the monitor(s) as your likely to keep them for quite a long time and be looking at them quite a bit.

i have the same gpu set up and 3x1920x1080 panels and at low medium setting the vram is maxed out on quite a lot of games like
shift 2
crysis
metro wont even play at that res 1-5fps

and i cant imaging the extra 256mb of ram helping things if he wants maximum quality at a good frame rate 3gb cards are the only way to go or the 2.5gb 570's when there out

also when you consider 3d surround halves frame rates no question really
