Cracked laptop screens - Are they always user damage, or can they happen by themselves?

As above, I sold a laptop and a couple of weeks later the person I sold it to has reported the screen is damaged/cracked.

Are there any ways this can happen naturally, or is this something that can only happen via user damage?

Thanks.

Not possible, we have had a few customers trying to pull this, they dont seem to put up much of an argument when you tell them its impossible.

Laptop screens are pretty hard and durable, they need a good bit of force to break them.

He might have had it in a laptop rucksack on his shoulder and not realised that his big fat shoulder was pressing on the screen then when he's taken it out the bag it's appeared to have cracked without being dropped or anything maybe?

I've never come across one that's cracked on it's own.

Only happens by force, hence why it is excluded form most ocmpanies repair warranties. He's damaged it himself and is pulling a fast one.

Check with the manufacturer of the machine as there may be a known issue. Samsung panels recently built within Lenovo T61/T400 machines have a component placed at the rear of the screen which can cause them to crack on their own without any excess pressure. However, unless its a known issue its always customer induced damage...

You might want look at the Sales of Goods act which states that within 6 months, YOU have to prove that it was not faulty at point of sale.

I sold a laptop on ebay a couple of months ago, and when it arrived, the guy said the screen was cracked, and he showed pics. I just told him to make a claim with parcelforce. Never heard from him since.
