Sky Broadband not connecting with non Sky router (since today)

Bit of an odd issue.

I've had and been using a non sky router for about two months now and it's been happily working away just fine until today.

At around 9.30 it dropped the connection and it's not been able to connect again since then using the TP Link modem/router. I'm connected to the exchange at the normal rate, my SNR and everything is exactly as it usually is but nothing I can do seems to have any effect on actually connecting to the Internet.

However as soon as I plug in my Sky Netgear DG384GT it connects within seconds of establishing the link to the exchange and let's me go on the Internet.

I suppose I'm wondering if Sky have finally done something that checks the routers you have connected and stopped non Sky routers from connecting. Has anyone else got this issue today?

Any solution?

Many thanks.

I also use a non sky router but it works fine. How is the non-sky one setup? Is that it automatically detects the settings or you need to enter the sky username/password

I use the username/password from the original Netgear DG834GT that they supplied me and have also tried the username/password from the Netgear DG934G they supplied me when the original went on the fritz.

I believe everything else is set correctly as it's been working just fine for 2 months until today. It's a lot more complicated than the Netgear, even with DGTeam firmware but I think it's set right.

Thans I set the DNS back to default about 90 minutes ago and it made no difference, not immediately anyway.

Have unplugged the TP-Link about 4 times in the last 90 minutes but this time it has actually gone and connected. It was disconnected from the power for a longer time this last occasion.

So I am none the wiser but at least it's connected, for the time being anyway. Thanks for the help by the way.

I only use a non-sky router because the supplied Sky ones are so poor with wireless, even a cheap TP-Link provides a better experience.

It's fixed itself now although I've no idea what changed.

Looking into this MAC spoofing and the authentication changes they are talking about on Skyuser though just in case.

It went down again this morning and reconnected at a third of the normal speed. Rebooted router this evening and it synced at normal speed but then wouldn't connect again.

Beginning to think its the tp-link device. Have updated firmware and hoping for the best. It connected after updating firmware.

Looks like sky haven't rolled out MER connections yet anyway.
