I've got an MSI 6950 2gb frozr III PE and it idles at about 42c at 41% fan speed.

I ran furmark and it hit 75C at 73% fan, room temp is about 21C

The fans sound louder than I expected, but I don't know how load a reference card would be.

Do the temps seem 'normal' or could the card be faulty?

Thanks

Perfectly normal, my reference 6950 card hardly goes over 80c. Start worrying if you go above 95 tho, 75 is good.

Your fan speed is high, i dont know if thats because its the twin fan and thats ok, mine hardly ever goes above 35%

Hmm, I've run furmark a few more times and the temp is hitting 82c and the fan is at about 97%.

I realise air flow though the case affects it, but this seems much higher than various reviews I have read.

Sounds more like an over aggressive fan controller to me.

82 degrees is a good 20 degrees lower than the card can handle. 97% fan speed should only be really occuring once you get into the 90s really. Maybe they wanted to get that headline lower temperature so set it up like that.

Anyway 2 80mm fans pelting along at fast speed will be noisy. I couldnt find out how fast they go but expect it to be 2000rpm+ which is going to be loud.

reference coolers bring a whole new meaning to the word loud. Even at lowest 20% they are audible and at 50% they are obnoxious, going even higher and it's really quite ridiculous. 100% is just frankly absurd. Sounds like a high pitched hoover sitting next to you.

Use MSI afterburner to create a fan profile that better suits you then run some tests for those profiles and see if the temps stay the same.
