I have a AM2+ amd phenom 9550 with custom cooler

Geil Ram 2x 2GB DDR2 1066

ATI Sapphire 5770 Vapor X

I am a gamer.

I can spend up to £100

as i just want one that will be decent. maybe abit of overclocking.
atleast 5 USB ports.

Thanks in advanced.

I can't imagine you getting anything decent from gaming with an AM2+ but here is one that is probably the best you can get for your money.

You might want to think about selling your whole system and getting a SandyBridge or at least an AM3 motherboard and CPU.

Personally I would get
ASRock N68C-S UCC GeForce 7025 (Socket AM3/AM2+) DDR2/DDR3 microATX Motherboard

and
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail

A tiny bit over yer budget but the cpu is great for overclocking.

This way get get a very nice boost in performance have the option to upgrade your ram at later date also. Or you can just get the motherboard save up for couple weeks and gt the CPU. I know its not a top end MB but this gives you the best upgrade option I feel.

My system is perfectly fine for gaming :S what are you on about?
When i say gaming i dont mean new FPS games every month.
i mean mainly counterstrike source.

So fps problems i wont ever get. my system doesnt need new i kno that for sure.

Personally, I would suggest spending a bit more and pick up an AM3+ supporting board and a Phenom II X4 955BE chip. Then buy this DDR3 memory kit and sell your 4GB DDR2 (this sale should cover buying the DDR3).

Edit: Ah, when you said "I am a gamer." we naturally assumed you were playing the current games like BF:BC2, Civ 5, crysis 2, witcher 2 etc. which are increasingly CPU heavy and a Phenom 1 would not be able to cope with too well. If you are playing CSS then this is a somewhat different story, although spending the bit extra to get an up-to-date system would not be a bad idea (especially considering the second-hand price of DDR2) - since spending money now on a AM2+ DDR2 board does seem like a bit of a waste.

That is fair enough. But getting an AM2+ board is going to limit your upgrade options in the future. If thats the case go with the one Jordan97 linked.

haha im sorry for not expressing i am a css'er ;)

i am going to price up the suggestions made and see how workable it is and i will get back in abit

Why do you need a new motherboard then?

wont work. motherboard does not support 125W processors.

if you are looking to get a completely new motherboard + processor, i would strongly recommend you get an AM3+ motherboard.
does the phenom 9550 fit in an AM3 socket, and also do you have the AM3 mounting bracket for your cooler lying around?

*edit*
if you want an AM3+ mobo, then this will do you nicely:

or, if you want SLI/crossfire capabilities, this will be the one for you:

Because it is broken :L..

Doesnt work anymore so now i need a new one. thats why im not bothered about upgrading etc. just need one that will work. and i want a really decent one. atleast when i bought my current(broken) one it was like £60 so i assume that was decent then like 2 years ago. And the prices of the ones you are showing me are very cheap? have motherboard quality gone up and prices gone down over the years?

It should really say that in the description. But looking on the ASROCK support page it seems your right.

The reason so cheap is its dated hardware the computer market flys fast as hell sometimes. Something is released 2 weeks later something better comes out and prices change.

Unfortunately the AM2+ CPUs won't work in AM3 or AM3+ boards (no memory controller for DDR3 or something like that).

AM3 CPUs will work in AM2+ boards (with the updated BIOS), but sadly not the other way round, as that would have been a nice solution for the OP.

As it stands there are not many AM2+ boards on OCUK and none of these use the better AMD chipsets (just Nvidia chipsets). If the OP is determined to get a good AM2+ DDR2 board, then I would suggest hunting down one of the 700 series AMD chipset ones like the excellent gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3.

done a little reading around, and the best you are going to get is one of these:

Gigabyte GA-M68M-S2P GeForce 7025 (Socket AM3/AM2+) DDR2 microATX Motherboard £34.99

the reason is, the phenom 9550 does not support DDR3 memory, so although it will technically fit into the AM3+ socket, it will not work because no AM3+ motherboard supports DDR2 memory
that motherboard allows an upgrade path to the Phenom II 955BE though.

if you want an upgrade path to bulldozer in the future, then this is the best i can do.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Athlon II X3 Tri Core 450 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £59.99
1 x Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £54.98
1 x Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £30.98
Total : £157.36 (includes shipping: £9.50).

it will be a touch faster than the 9550, despite having one less core (on single threaded aplications it will be quite a bit faster)

Well since AM2+ we've had AM3 and now AM3+ has come out. A lot can happen in 2 years and now AM2 is considered a 'dead-socket'

I think AM3+ should be compatible with AM2+, please correct me if I'm wrong. ;)
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-349-GI&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2046

Absolutely not. AM3+ doesn't support DDR2, which, apart from the fact that he already owns DDR2, is the only only type of memory supported by the Phenom I's.
Most of the later Phenom II's can operate in AM3 or AM3+ boards because they support DDR3.

I would 2nd a 7 series AM2+ board (actually I have the one mentioned earlier in the thread). Should be able to get one for less than £50 which will support all the way up to X6s as an optional future upgrade.
Where a CPU is supported on AM2+ / DDR2 and AM3 / DDR3 performance is basically identical.

Hope thats of some use to the OP.
