My ps3 is broken,.

I read that you cannot put your old hard drive in new ps3 as it auto formats any new hard drive insereted into it.

So I thought mayeb I can connect ard drive to my ps3 to copy files on to my pc. THen transfer files from pc to my new PS3?

But then I read that the format which ps3 saves files is only compatible with other ps3 so you can only transfer between two ps3. The pc does not read the file/format saved games on the PS3?

ANyone any ideas how I cam keep my saves games?

A file is a file. While the PC will be unable to open said files and gain anything meaningful from it, it will be able to move them around. So, plug the old HDD into your PC, transfer all the save games to a USB stick, then shove into/onto the new PS3. Only potential issue is that some games don't allow you to transfer save games between PS3s.

Wouldn't work.

The PS3 uses a file system which can't be read by a PC.

thats what i heard.

So if so there is nothing I can do?

I will lose all my save games?

Sony is crazy for doing this

Use a USB external drive - do a full backup, then you can restore onto your new ps3 :)

Or

You can do a full file transfer between 2 different PS3's using the data transfer utility by ethernet cable :)

But I cant becuase My ps3 with ahrd drive is broken.

So I cant access that hard drive via ps3.

If I out in another ps3 it formats it automatically.

If I put hard drive in usb external enclosure can I then plug this into new ps3 HDD and transfer?

Ahh, right - you didn't say how it was broken, I thought it might just been the blu-ray drive that had gone or something (i.e. still able to use it).

I'm afraid then your game saves are lost :(

As you said - stick it in another ps3 - it'll force a format & pc cannot read the ps3 file system.

Remember to back up important game saves next time, sorry! Surely you can't have that many important game saves, after all mp stats/ranks are all stored on servers, it's only sp game saves that are on the ps3 normally.

My ps3 has YLOD

yeh just a few games I have uncompleted...In fact I have quite a lot. Plus I have boxers in fight night etc..

I have at least 20+ games started and not completed.

ATM assasins creed brotherhood 30-40% completed
Saboteur 50% completed
Just Cuase 2 like 85% completed main story and over 40 hours of gameplay FML!!!!
Oblivion- who knows? 20-30 hours at least anyway

ANd thats what I was playing atm...I have loads others like

Red faction guerilla wars...60-70% completed
RE5- 90% completed..I was on the last chapter
Kayne and lynch 80% compelted
Dantes inferno- last mission
Bayonetta- 10hours or so in...70% completed?

SO you can see I have a lot im gonna lose and a lotta hours gampelay to make up. Which I cant really be bothered!!!

So, there is no way I can get these save games...this is crazy surely there is a program that can read the ps3 hard drive via usb into the pc to extract files to copy/transfer to new system? Even a user created program? GOogle search suggests not though.

Well this is crap.

I think you can save your save games to sky (internet) or soemthing now? Or only PS3 plus users? Im not sure...I hope so?

Really? Sony suck balls.

(Have a PS3 myself, can't transfer my GT5 data onto my new account which I had to make (to play/access online) due to hacking, so have to start again, and I'm at quite a late stage. When asked, Sony just ignored my email).

because of all this hacking fiasco with sony, dont they offer a free month of PSN Plus or something?

if you register with that, upload your save games into your account, replace the hard drive, log into psn and then download your save games - that should work :)

How does the OP do that as their PS3 doesn't work?

Ok if I try to rpeair my ps3 myslf I have heard it may only work tempoarily....From 15 mins to 2-3 weeks or at best a few months,

However at worst if I get it to work only 20mins or so. I can then back up my hard drive to usb mem stick using the PS3 backup utility

Then with backup I can install this backup on my new ps3?

Im sure this will solve the problem.

All I need is to get my current ps3 powered up and working for 20mins or so.

Is this correct?
