Pretty new to the whole Mac platform.. usually use my xbox to play most games these days due to friends playing over xbox... got plenty of PC games sat in the corner, Grid, Crysis, Cod2, Cod4 etc.. I fancy testing this 27inch IMAC with a few decent games.. using bootcamp or I may even invest in Para Desktop.. but for now lets focus on bootcamp, out of experience or knowledge what would perform better overall games wise? speed, fps.. those sort of factors Windows 7 or XP .. does have knowledge to share on this respect?.. Thanks!

Parallels has to emulate everything so 3D performance is very poor, you can play some undemanding games from years back but that's it.

7 and XP perform around the same for games, well I wouldn't be surprised if 7 was better now. Plus it is far better than XP, supports newer stuff, more secure, easier to update and doesn't warrant lots of tweaking.

That does make sense (now somebody says it) haha.. thanks! also I bought Windows 7 for my PC I know its OEM but would you reckon Id get away with using it? same serial etc.. or will it just reject me? I know this is a silly question cause the answer may seem obvious but in my past experiences ive never bothed trying.. trying to save myself 90 odd quid here or whatever it costs!

Have you tried gaming in Parallels? It's so much better now than it ever was. I used to play Eve (very graphically demanding) in Parallels up until a year ago and it was far superior to the native client.

Yeah, I gave it a go after reading this - http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2010/09/parallels-desktop-6-the-ars-review.ars/5 - but I found too many glitches and instability except on much older titles, and the same settings just didn't look as good. Also I use a MBP so performance isn't as good as the iMac's GPU so bootcamp is necessary.

Crossover Games and wrappers like Cider and such work better than Parallels usually.

Makes me laugh how people will plough literally thousands and thousands of pounds into hardware and then cheap out when it comes to OS licensing. Buy yourself a retail copy of Windows 7 which will be good for the next 5+ years.

Don't be daft, OEM is pitched at people building their own systems.

Pretty confused as my serial code was invalid.. although I removed it and just carried on forward.. Windows7 installed without a serial code inputted, plays games perfectly well.. hmm strange!

Windows 7 will let you install it without using a serial key. It will be unregistered and in 30 days you will start getting prompted at logon to activate it and that your copy may not be genuine, blah blah. You can keep using it past the 30 day mark and just ignore the prompts if you only use it now and again in boot camp I suppose. I have a laptop I use now and again with windows 7 that is months past the activation date! I'm just too lazy to type the code in from under the laptop as I use it now and again so don't care that it's turned off windows aero!

Right click on my computer and check out the properties. Scroll to the bottom and you should see it say how many days are left before the activation prompts come up.
