EVGA GTX 580 red blotches

An inconvenience I appreciate, though at least your back up card is a high end card. :) I was using a 3450 when I was without a main gpu and it was painful.

Yeah i can imagine, im gonna put my 5850 up on ebay too it was lucky i wasn't too impatient to do so would have stitched myself up good and proper, going to make sure the new card i get is in perfect working order before selling the other.

The problem with it working sometimes, is that they might test it and say its fine..thus your RMA is over.

Kinda sucks but mm, goodluck

That's why I would do further testing so that I could be more specific as to what the problem is when RMAing it.

He said he got in from work and it worked okay, it could be that the ambient temperatures were lower as it hadn't been running all day long.

First thing I'd try is running NVidia's recommended/reference clockspeeds because I think a lot of these pre-overclocked cards are not tested properly and the vendors instead just hope that not too many get RMA'd. If it works fine at reference levels you pretty much have proof that the card is faulty and it's not something else in your system which is what they often might claim.

1. Reinstalling the drivers
2. Removed the overclock
3. Used EVGA OC Scanner, Prime95, and memtest (no errors)
4. Removed the card and cleaned everything up and placed it back in

A lot of people have suggested removing the overclock, if you look back at my original post (no.2) u will see it was 1 of the first things i tried already and the problem remained.

These are the values i used which were taken from my friends clock speeds as he has a standard 580

core - 772
shader 1544
memory 2004

Strangest thing is when i downclock the card to around 550mhz the blotches disappear

Believe me RMA'ing it is the very last thing i want to do but seems like its now the only option, i wont give up trying to solve it until the very last minute before i pack the card back up and ship it off.

yeah that screenshot defo doesnt look too good, and there has been a lot of problems with the 590 i did some reasearch before buying it, but it has a nice long warranty and under full load it never reaches 70 degrees which means 2 things, 1 it can handle a hell of a load more so im sure i have nothing to worry about on this card, and 2 there plenty of room for overclocking ;)
