Hi,

I was wondering has anyone else put themselves on their parent's car for 1 month while learning to drive to get additional experience before taking the test?

Any companies out there you would recommend and what's the likely cost of it?

Sorry I forgot to mention I would be driving my dad's 2005 Vauxhall vectra sxi 1.8. Probably would be quite expensive to ensure?

edit:

Your Quotation for Comprehensive Insurance:
1 Month
£90.95
(Equivalent to £83.95 for 28 days)

Seems quite cheap!

Well, considering that as a provisional license holder you will always be accompanied by a driver the risk of crashing is pretty low compared to someone who has just passed their test and can wants to find the limits of the car.

It really is quite cheap, I did most of my learning that way mostly chauffeuring my mum around and then only getting a few lessons with an instructor to make sure i had maneuvers sorted out

My dad rang his insurance, bsoltan, and they were quoting "in excess of £3000" so no. :p

Jesus, for that money I can buy my own car and a year's insurance!

+1 although I did pick up bad habbits like driving with one hand on the wheel.

I had a bit of practice with my dad in the dual control car initially. While I thought it was good at the time I now realise he taught me a few bad habits which were hard to shake off.

However now I've had about 18 hours with my instructor I guess I can just follow what my instructor has taught me rather than my dad when we're in the car! Now I think it's more a question of experience and refining what I know.
