Thanks for all the input. My girlfriend did some digging and came the same conclusion as you guys, and is accepting the points and fine, however her dad's going to appeal, as his FPN stated that he was "using" the car, not "a passenger in" the car.

Interesting point about the Z06F conviction code though. We're off on holiday tomorrow, so will sort it all out when we get back

to be fair his appeal wont go far imho, he let her drive it, so he is at fault as well, i do hope at least one gets off with it, but tbh i dont think they will

He might get off. If he has been accused of "driving a car without insurance" he can prove that he wasn't driving and therefore cannot be found guilty. They may, however, then just give him an FPN for the correct offense so it may just be a delay rather than a complete avoidance.
