hey friends im shopping around for coolers for my i5 2500k build and cant decide between something like a thermaltake frio or arctic cooling freezer 13 pro vs a corsair h60
the corsair has had some great reviews and it saves a lot of space, i plan on having corsair vengeance ram which has big old heatsinks on them and apparently can cause issues fitting big air coolers,

problem is i saw this video on youtube damning the h60 and making me lose all confidence. what would you do?

If you want the best cooler in the price range (air or liquid) then that is the thermalright silver arrow.

it's big and heavy - but it cools wonderfully, is really quiet and it can't leak. Here is a review which compares it directly to the H70 cooler.

As you mention, you need to use low-profile RAM with such a big cooler - but a kit of the widely loved XMS3 will run just as well as some vengeance, save you a few pennys and fit under the better thermalright cooler.

thats sounds like a plan my man, thx for the advice people ;)

That "review" seemed somewhat biased and non empirical.

I would argue that whilst yes, the giant block of heatsinks with fans does a lot of cooling, the Corsair H60 is just as good (and a hella better than the stock HSF) Remember you'll never probably get your setup as incredibly perfect as the reviewers who probably re-applied pastes 5-6 times to ensure they did it correctly.

I have my H60 push pull with Gentle Typhoons and I can't get my temps into the 60's on a maximum IBT.

If there's only a couple of degrees in it and your going for looks, closed loop water would probably be better, but if you are anal over performance and scared of leaking (unlikely on a closed loop but we never do know) air coolers still have the edge.

just checking out the thermarite silver arrow OMG that thing is huge! ive got a coolermaster elite 430 on its way would it even fit lol, bend my motherboard much?
@Lunawolfy yeah some people seem to get great results from the h60 while others dont..i dunno

Board thickness and standoffs mean that board flex is virtually nil, the mobo is quite simply nailed to the case. Weight is only an issue with certain GPUs and cases, The CM 690 Advanced edition comes with some sort of bracket to stop flex on the PCI-e socket.

Plus the backplate with the four screws creates a very strong system, think the plank of wood under a shelf, reinforces the entire thing, upto a limit ;)

Aye, I'm running the H50-1 and my load temps only go as high as 68'C (i5-2500k 4.6GHz). The idle temps are a little on the high side (generally around 35-40), but I'm just using the stock fan - planning on replacing with apache black in the next few weeks. I can only imagine the H60 and H70 to be a little better.

I have the H60 but only cos Im a tart! :p

But also cos I have a RAM cooler and thought a decent sized cpu cooler will get in the way.

In that test it is using a Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120. This is no doubt a good air cooler - but these days air coolers like the Silver Arrow and Noctua DH-14 walk all over them.

Also, in that test it appears that the TRUE's fan is set up in pull configuration - which will not provide optimum cooling.

May I ask why you need a RAM cooler?
