They'll fit but they'll be nice and snug together.

The only other expansion slot you would be able to use is the top PCI-E x1 slot.

Yes, but the lightning is a 2½ slot card so 2 cards would be pretty close together.

Am I just wasting money getting a 580 to replace the 2x 480s? I will be sli the 580 soon!

Personally if it were me I wouldn't bother replacing two 480's, even if money was no object. I see you're using two 24" monitors so there appears to be little incentive, it might be different if you were driving two or three larger screens with resolutions in the 2560 x 1440 / 1600's.

I have, but I play a lot of cod4 online and I am worried about any problems associated with fov and being kicked. Anyone had any experience of this?
