I know a few people here have dabbled with car rig photography so thought a good as place to ask as anywhere else.

For a long time I’ve wanted to assemble my own rig and was very interested in this thread but alas it has gone very quiet. Therefore pushing onwards I’ve now assembled most parts for what I need (super-clamps, suction mounts, magic-arm, plus various brackets/fixings) and all that remains is the pole.

I’ve been looking into carbon options with mixed responses (and widely differing costs) so in the short term I’m going to try a multi section aluminium pole.

So anyone have any recommendations on sizes (more so diameter and wall thickness), connecting the sections, and bracing lines?

Cheers
Andy

I built my own.

Have a look here: http://www.danfreemanphotography.com/blog/2009/08/rig-baby/

There's also a few more posts on my blog with out-takes etc.

Iirc, it's 2.5" thick, can't remember the wall thickness though. The joint in the middle I bought from RS Components, or Farnell (can't remember which!)

I made it a long time ago, so my memory on the exact specs is a bit hazy.

I do have a backup option too, if it won't attach to the underside of a car, I have two suction mounts and I use it that way.

Thanks, been looking at your blog a lot over the past few weeks, think I will try and get down to a building supplies store this weekend and see what I can put together.

Only other thing I need to sort is an ND filter, iching to get out and test. :D
