Hi there,

does anyone know what is a fair price to refill my air con?

my vehicle is a w reg honda accord

thanks

50 or 60 quid, just got to kwik fit, even they cant **** that up.

Recently paid £60 for a full gas up of a system and vacuum test after replacing some condensers. So guess somewhere around that sort of price.

£50 most places ive seen it.

I've had mine done at kwikFit in the past and there ok as its just a machine they plug in and it sorts the rest out for them, so they can't really mess it up. Last time i got it done at a Subaru specialist but just because the car was already in for a service.

Hi, for £50 I'd expect a ful A/C service, not just a refill, this would include cleaning the air vents as well to prevent that nasty smell. That's what my Ford main dealer charged me last time I had my car done.

When did you last have it done? The A/C in my '99 Focus has never worked since I got it, figured it was just the gas. Last time I had it serviced the mechanic said that you should still be able to hear the unit making noise even without gas, which it wasn't - is this true?

my toyota is a year old

when does it need a re gas ?

Usually every 3 years or so. Or when the effectivness has diminished. Usually around 3 years or so.

Sometimes. On mine, it needs a regas, but there is just enough in there so the a/c tries to come on, you can hear the compressor clicking as the clutch engages for it. If its too low, the system will not allow you to turn it on (Yours will be like this) as without gas it will damage something! However, due to the length of time yours has not been used for, means it could be likely that the seals all need replacing, as its not just gas, but also an oil/lubricant that keeps the seals fresh.

Hi, just a word of warning, a/c gas contains a lubricant, thus if you leave for too long you'll run the risk of damaging the seals and causing greater damage that a simple refil will fix.

When you decant the refrigerant a lot of oil will still be in the system and doing a fresh recharge will add more oil which can have a adverse affect on cooling performance.

The refrigerant in theory should not need to be change as this can last the life of the vehicle.

£50 at Kwack Fit

In both cases, they just plug it in, vacuum test it and refill.

Mine failed the vacuum test as they said the aircon has a leak somewhere :-(

£65+VAT at Rapid-Fit (owned by Ford, I think).
