Current account balance? Was is yours.

~£300 at the moment. Unless I've been paid, in which case >£1k. Won't last long though. :o

Best of luck with that Castiel. Which institution are you going with? Also, can I have your job? I won't know exactly what I'm doing, but the pay sounds right. :p

I like to keep about a grand in there in case of emergencies, but I could probably cope with less given that I have my credit card. It's currently under £500, and has been perilously close to getting overdrawn because I took my eye off the ball and left a standing order into a savings account in place even though a particular stream of income had dropped off a bit. We've got a fairly big agreed overdraft anyway, and the rates are low, so going overdrawn for a few days here and there isn't a disaster if something comes up.

We've just done a big re-budgeting exercise to account for a pay rise I've had, so we should be able to get things back on track. I've had to talk my wife into our keeping less cash in the current account and the linked savings account because the interest is pitiful, so we're putting more in my ISA and she's getting one too, and were putting some extra in the mortgage as well which saves a fair chunk of interest, which is great, but is obviously a longer term game plan.

I quite enjoy all this money managing lark.

I've been studying p/t for Bachelors degree and then Masters for a number of years, but now I am entering doctoral studies in I'm sure you will not be surprised, Theology and Comparative Religions, which requires full time commitment and thus the job had to go, I still have my pension and financially I'm secure so it seems like a good time to do what I want, rather than what I have to do. I have to finish out my 6 months notice period and sort out my successor, but by the end of the year I shall be a full-time scholar of Ancient Antiquity and Biblical Study.

What fun!

Sounds enjoyable for you, go for it! :)
