Just got myself a iP4.

I like the idea of a bumper but there are loads of 3rd party ones and Apple ones are like £25.

I assume the Apple ones are decent quality for that price but is there anything better & cheaper?

Thanks,
CR!

My mate had a bumper on his IP4 for awhile and in all honesty, I wouldn't pay more then £5 for it. Neither would he actually, he got it free. The cheap ebay cases I have seen on different peoples iPhones look much better then the bumper imo.

I've currently got one like this on mine by incase, got it free:

http://case4iphone.org/shop/incase/16-incase-metallic-slider-case-white-for-iphone-4-.html

It has a nice feel to it, it fully protects the back and it doesn't overlap on the front screen so doesn't touch the invisible shield at all, which some cases do causing it to peel from the edges.

My official Apple one I got free during the give away has just recently started falling apart near the bottom. Shame as I quite liked it, although it has caused a few scuffs on the silver trim, but this is pretty common

I like the official bumpers also. I had one free during the initial promotion which did start to split near the dock connector but was still 'OK'.

Recently replaced it for a blue one which looks good. As long as you remove them from time to time and give them a good wipe down, they won't cause too much harm. I've got the odd blemish on the antenna band, nothing to worry about though.

I've had mine since launch and hasn't got a single mark on it front or back which shows you don't need screen protectors!

I used the incase snap for almost a year, although my phone took a spill when my daughter was born, in February, which cracked the corner of the case (still fine, just with a crack in it).

Since then I've picked up a faux bumper which I'm rather enjoying :)

The only bad thing about the bumper is that I have to take it off to put it in my dock. But then again, this gives me a chance to clear out any dust which may be caught between the case and the phone :)

I have one of the apple universal docks from a couple of years ago (with IR sensor on front). I just took the interchangeable dock insert out, allowing me to dock it with the bumper on.

I use the Speck Pixel Skin HD. Shock absorbent and looks smart.

I use this too/used to. Got it for free, probably wouldn't have bought it.

If I recall correctly, Apple are still offering a free bumper, you just have to contact them and claim you're having signal issues.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a free bumper for quite some time, its 9 months (roughly) since they stopped the promotion.

I had a bumper on mine but took it off after it started scratching the band, been naked on my iPhone for ages now and not had a scratch or anything since then

I have a bumper. It scuffs the metal like hell and eventually broke but Apple swapped it out for free.

I like the bumper tbh. Might have a look to see if I can find some coloured ones though.

What apple said on the matter:

Apple said:
We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.

They may have since stopped the bolded text, but surely its worth the phone call.

Certainly, wasn't aware they stated that so definitely worth a call if its a bumper you are after.

After the scratches it caused on my antenna band though I would certainly recommend going for a different case myself

Finally got myself a speck candyshell in black.

Feels nice in my hand with a rubber insert and hard outer case for protection.

£28 off the apple store but bought a magic trackpad at the same time to save myself a few quid on postage.
