So friend and his girlfriend is looking to buy a new car, 15k and no older than 2 years.

That is pretty much all they are looking for, but they have two kids so a hatch back would be preferable. It will mostly be her car, so it has to look good.

Can a 1 series be done for this amount? She is also interested in a brand new megane?

Also can I be filled in with 1 series, what to buy at this price range?

As much as I agree, its a women buying and she is looking for something 'sporty' looking.

I shall pass on for another idea though. Thanks.

If you go for an Octavia beware the seats aren't the most comfortable, though the boot is an excellent size (buggy + shopping with ease).

You can get the PD 170s for this price too.

<2 years old would be CR...I'd avoid the PD170s anyway after reading this.

I shall suggest the Octavia, but I really don't think it will hold.

She has been looking at Megane's, Astra's etc. Most likely lower powered models, I hope am wrong mind as I think there cracking cars and would fit perfectly.

My sister found a 57 plate 5 door 120D for £11k, 20k miles, cruise control. Granted it's 4 years old but it is spotless.

I'm not sure they would listen to 'some random people on the internet'. We know nothing about them and they know nothing about us. We can't ask them about their preferences and needs because they aren't posting. For all we know she might choose the 'shiny' one and that will be it and nothing we say would change her mind. They might be badge snobs, so anything not perceived as 'fashionable' would be out for no good reason.

She should get a Golf then.

Loads of Golf VI 1.4 TSIs about for under £15k. Just find one with a good spec.

My friend asked me to post, and can pass on information if asked.

The Golf is a good shout, surely better than the Megane which she seems to have her heart set on?
