Which Nvidia GTX 590?

click extend my resolution onto this monitor in the resolution settings page?

If you mean select "extend these displays" that is selected.

The odd thing is windows is detecting the monitor because it says it is there and all the software I am aware of is set correctly.

For it to be detected I can safely assume the MDP (mini display port) is working.

But the 2nd monitor will not come off standby?

I have switched the monitors around and the whichever one is connected through the MDP will be recognized but not switch on.

*scratches head*

Personally, I have no experience with DP so I will let someone else help you rather than trying to guess and possible sending you off down the wrong path.

I will assume you have done the other simple checks of the resolution it is being set to etc, and the second screen isnt set to the wrong input or something.

Yeh no worries mate I appreciate you trying to help :)

I have just been trawling the other tech forums and I think I know what the problem is now.

It would seem that the MDP (mini display port) adapters convert the signal to the relevant type of port they are converting to.

So for example: I have a MDP to DVI adapter.

This has a DVI output signal.

However, I have then connected a DVI to VGA adapter which I believe changes the physical port but not the signal.

This means when I then connect my VGA monitor cable to this series of adaptors it is sending a DVI signal to the monitor when it is looking for a VGA one.

Therefore the monitor doesn't switch on but the PC detects it because the PC can translate the VGA signal.

It would be nice if someone out there could confirm I am on the right track as I am about to order an MDP to VGA adapter :D

I was going to get the same 590 with the mouse that you saw, but then heard about all these problems with them and saw that video. I'm getting the Gainward Phantom GTX 580, as apparently it's a beast! I've heard all the rumours of a recall and a revision are in fact false but ya never know. Personally i'd go for the 580, seem much more reliable from what I've read

what?
I dont have any ATI cards, so Ive never used display port and didnt want to guess at the fact of converters not working through other converters and then it be totally wrong and have wasted his time.

I think he was making a sarcastic comment to a different definition of DP

Anyway, did they revise the 590's in the end and release different versions?

For anyone interested. I bought a MDP to VGA adapter from PC world for £22.00 and the monitor now works.

It is therefore confirmed that whatever the output of the MDP adapter is it needs to match the input of the device being connected to it or it will not work.
