Quick DIY Audi service...

I just changed the air filter and pollen filter on my Audi A3 '07 in under 5 minutes and for total cost of £25!! Well chuffed :D

And to further fuel my ego I asked the Audi dealer how much this would cost

£180!! Plus they have the car for full day :eek:
 
And how much has now missing a service in your Audi service book devalued your 07 plate A3 by, because you must add this to the cost of doing it yourself.

People buying 07 plate A3's don't want to see cars DIY serviced to save a few quid.
 
The Audi website says an Interim Service on an 07 A3 - which will also include oil - is only £149. The MAJOR service is only £270.

Something tells me that you are not quite right in your assumption that you would have paid £180 for just an air filter and a pollen filter..
 
Probably not but its the stamp in the book thats worth the money.
 
I could very easily give my swift it's next service, But at £120 it's going into the dealers purely for the dealers stamp (all have been done at same dealer)

Fair comment but I am only changed the air filter and pollen filter, not oil, oil filter etc which is far more important to have serviced at dealer and get stamped. For some crazy reason Audi decide to change the air filter, as part of a service, very late into a car's life (60k miles). Sorry, but the filter was filthy and costs £15 took 6 odd screws to do, there's no excuse. So, in terms of the argument that i devalued my car because I changed the air filter is unfound considering I did the engine a favour.

In terms of Audi service charges, yes ordinary service for oil change etc costs about £150, but I was just quoted on only fitting the filters, so about £25 for parts and the rest on labour per hour, not doubt he was trying to have me over and if you shopped about it's probably cheaper.
 
If you are doing it outside the service requirement, i.e. because it benefit the car and you are still taking the car to it's required service then that's fine.

If you are doing it to save some money, and think you can skip a service interval then no.

So, what you are saying is that your filters are dirty, you want them changed (outside the service), and Audi quoted you £180 and you got it done for £25.

None of this matters unless you change the air filter *outside* the normal servicing regeime when it wasn't due. If you changed it when it was due, but did it yourself, the effect on its value is the same as if you'd done the oil yourself or... not bothered at all.

The reason Audi change the air filter 60k into the cars life is because thats when it needs doing.

so you've not missed a service, but just changed some items ahead of the time audi say it needs doing ?

Exact-o-mondoooo, can't believe peps here read between the lines and thought I was a cheap barsteward and changed the filters when they were due. :(

Come on feller, the thing was literally black and full of @&£# after 40k miles, why would someone not change something that's cheap, easy to fit and will no doubt benefit the car.
 
There's more to a service than filters an oil, it's a full inspection also. Brakes, suspension, tyres, body etc. On an 8 year old mondeo, fair enough, surely a 3-4 year old audi a 'proper' service is going to be much better, not to mention a stamp in the book which helps resale value.

No one is doubting this, especially me. I ve owned my car from new and it's been fully serviced ever since but the point I tried to make at the start, don't know why I bothered now, was it's very cheap and easy to change a filter (outside normal service).
