Budget is £200

Here's what I have got.

I need to be able to output to HDMI no extra peripherals needed.

Lian Li C50b
3x250 GB HDD's
520w PSU
DVD writer

not preference for either AMD or Intel so your imagination is welcome.

I'd be looking at these:

Intel Core i3-2100 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail - £91.99
MSI H61M-E33 Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard **B3 REVISION** - £46.99
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit - £30.98

The i3's HD2000 graphics is more than enough for outputting video's nad it also has a very low power usage! The motherboard has enough sata connectors for your HDD's and HDMI output. (only downside is that its out of stock atm, could shop around)

If you didn't want to spend £30 on RAM then single sticks can be bought for cheaper prices:
Corsair Value 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Single Channel Module - £15.98

Optional CPU cooler:
Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler - £27.98

If you didn't like the noise from the intel one.

what PSU is it. i know its a 520W, but there is a massive difference between 520W PSU's, so if you could find the brand name and model name that would be great :)

You sir are on my christmas card list, thank you!

Oh one last thing the DVD writer I have is too long WTF, can anyone recommend a shorter one? It's about 6 years old and came in a prebuilt dell.

I am 99% sure that they are all a standard size that are sold seperately.

Dell seem to like to change things about a bit. I think it is to make it as difficult as possible to introduce new components to their computers, it's the only reason I can think of. This was you are more likely to buy a whole new computer I suppose. I remember my friend who had a Dell given to him took it apart and told me that a lot of things were different inside. I haven't had first hand experience on seeing the inside of a Dell myself though.

Or it could be just an older shape as Minstadave said below? :D Still, my Dell point still stands

Athlon x2 £43.19
HD 6450 £35.99
am3+ mATX mobo £47.99

Do your research regarding intel htpc options, some issues regarding 24fps playback, check out Avforums for more info on this, some people put up with it/others hate it etc.

I3 with integrated graphics will use less power, is newer tech.
