Odd power supply cut out

My power supply (Hyper Type-R 580W) blew up a few weeks back, and not long ago I replaced it with an identical model which has been running fine ever since. I was out of town for a week, came back, everything booted fine and about 30 minutes in the power cuts out - it then refused to boot until I switched everything off for 5 minutes... after that it was OK for 5 minutes, before cutting out again. I don't think it's an overheating issue as the machine has been fine up-till now, and I don't want to believe that it's the PSU as I have just swapped it out.

What steps can I take to track the problem down?

EDIT: I should point out that now it runs for a few minutes before the screen goes black, PSU and fans still running.

It was second hand but with little use.
They're not renowned for their reliability but my first ran for a good 2/3 years before dying so I expected the same from this.

The most likely suspect is the PSU given that it's second hand and that they have a history of failure.

Unless you personally know and trust the person you bought it from you've now way of knowing what use it had or if it had any problems before you bought it.

You are completely insane. You had a Hiper blow up on you and despite all the post's about the same thing on here and all over the internet you go and buy another!! It's crap, get rid of it and get a decent psu.

Urgh This brings back found memorys, RIP trusy AMD 4000+ and motherboard. Get rid that thing beofre it destroys your system

It's probably overheating and shutting down as the voltages become unstable.

Chuck it in the bin or get a sledge hammer to it. Hipers are known to go bang and take motherboards, RAM etc as it throws all sorts of silly voltages down its wires.

Yep the one thing I consider very carefully before I buy is the PSU. Always bought a reliable brand and so far not a single PSU problem. You may get away with it for an office browser machine but as soon as you OC and/or add a decent GPU you'll find its weakness...
