Hello,

Please spec me. I need the whole thing not just the stuff in the case. I would like it to include decent speakers because i'd like it to be a bit of a music player too.

Thanks a lot

This is decent system, only thing it doesnt include is an aftermarket CPU cooler, but strong CPU, decent gfx, decent monitor & excellent speakers

I dont see how that is a Bad Deal ? Unless your a ATI fan and choose a AMD Card over a Nvidia i would say its a decent build. Not ever used a BenQ monitor but have heard good things + the speakers are supposed to be top notch

Personally i would change the PSU to XFX and maybe the board for a P67 GD53 or alike but that would mean lowering some other components to squeeze into budget

OP my spec will be good if you wanna make it cheaper take off SSD and get a cheaper case but it is a nice case

6950 isn't better than a 580..not by a long shot.

The intel processor is slightly better but will make virtually zero difference in games - easily outweighed by the superior performance of the 580. In fact... I'm not sure that a 3.3ghz SB beats a 3.7PII. If it does, it won't be by much.

Only problems with the above is:
AMD Phenom X4 980 is old and beaten by the i5-2500K in almost everything (link)
No AM3+ board, so there isn't an upgrade path.
GTX 580 is over kill for a 1920x1080 monitor.
8Gb of RAM not really needed for gaming!

Z68 maybe a better board as far as features go but it will have no effect on gaming at all!
Cards perform around the same (link)

Not much in the way of stuff that will make a real world difference in the anandtech link. The i5 is definitely better, no question, but in actual gaming (not in the low res rubbish that is used as a comparison in that link), the difference between CPUs is minimal, and the £100 saved on the AMD platform can be put towards a more powerful graphics card, making a much larger difference in terms of bang per buck.

Cards don't perform the same. 580 NOT a 560.

edit: to address your other points:

8GB for that price is worthwhile in a 'may as well' kind of way. It's super cheap.

am3+ adds at least £100 to the cost of the system. It'd cost a similar amount in the future to just buy a mainstream am3+ board once you decide to upgrade.

GTX580 isn't overkill for a 1080p monitor assuming the OP is going to be using the system for more than 6 months.

I really don't get people's logic on this tbh.

The OP wants reasonable sound and aside from that is a gamer.

CPU matters little as long as it is decent. (benchmarks of at least 1080p with AA to disprove this please)

GFX matters a LOT.

Case matters little as long as it is good enough to not fall apart and to provide airflow.

Monitor - no point going for anything less than 24".

I really don't get all these suggestions for mid range graphics cards and super bling cases. The OP is spending £1k on a PC. If I were doing the same I'd want something that can do the job, not something that looks shiny.

im not so sure, the case is your main daily interaction with your PC, it isnt like you touch or look at the other components on a daily basis, so surely if your putting down a GRAND for a PC, you expect it to look nice - no?
