Do you know what i've always wondered?

I'd imagine the anonymity of the internet is quite nice for the very famous, but it's something I think about from time to time.

Is Karl Pilkington a member here or is that just a joke name/photo?

I wish it was him!

Lady Sovereign plays PS3 all the time. Not that she's a celeb though.

Also I believe that Tom Dekker from TSCC used to frequent the fan forums under an alias.

If that's the case then i'm a friend of Caroline Lucas on facebok.

Really? ;) :p

It's not really that unexpected to be honest given the theatre, we've come up across Councillors M/SP's and one particular 'Lord' as far as I could ascertain. When certain individuals have rather obvious idiosyncrasies and some who have openly admitted a keen involved interest in the media-blogosphere it becomes a near certainty given the involvement and the time it spans. Our adopted English Lord - in reality a convicted violent and drunk thug - Lord Fawlkes, has repeatedly taken pot shots at 'cybernat' opponents away from that sphere in the real world.

Some are open about being a politician and use it in a genuine way, we had a Lib Dem MSP posting in the online newspaper sections for a while before losing his seat. He was alright. Others play a keen game of rabid misrepresentation smear bile and lies, beyond that they are mostly supporters and party members but we do get that odd diamond in the rough. I'm not trying to claim fame from speaking to Unionist politicians online however, it's hardly a chalice to uphold. I bump into them enough often enough in real life to be put off anyway. :)

I may or may not have chatted to Richard D James a while back on IRC... It was either him or a rather knowledgeable follow who was giving me the lowdown on how to modify synths and such...

Chris Boardman was a member of the GUE (http://forums.gue.com/) / DIRQuest diving forum when I was a member a few years back.

It was quite funny as there were huge flame wars on there, and Chris chipped in with some cycling advice in a cycling/fitness thread. Some american guy flamed him saying something along the lines of "what the **** do you know about cycling you n00b", then one of the UK members linked Chris's Wiki page and much hilarity ensued.

I seem to recall something similar on Pistonheads last year, I think it was involving Jason Plato...

The vast majority of famous people are still ordinary folk like ourselves.

So why should it matter if I have met them :-)

Seriously I have met the Beckhams, S Club 7, Westlife, and many other footballers.

David Beckham likes his Whopper with no onions! - Normal person!

How often do we encounter famous people without knowing it across the faceless world of the net.

The vast majority of famous people are still ordinary folk like ourselves. They have interests just like us.

I wonder how many of them are active members on forums? Some must be interested in computers, sport, gardening, cars or the like. All thriving forum subjects.

Online gaming as well. It's well known Rooney is a FIFA addict. A friend of my brothers even played Mayweather on Fight Night Round 3.

I bet we encounter a great many of them without realising it.

Like you for instance Robert OVERMANN!

There are a few 'celebs' out there who are quite open about being avid gamers, so it's not inconcievable that you could end up playing against them online, a few I can think of would be:

Dara O'Briain
Dom Joly
Charlie Brooker

Let's not forget Twitter though, there has never been a better way to 'talk' to a celebrity or them possibly send you a message back.

Aside from that though, I'd say interactions with famous people are probably less likely than in real life and once again, your interactions with famous people is then based on where you work and such.

Not trying to inflate my own balloon, but working in the film industry I've met my fair share. But that naturally puts you in a position where you do meet them.
