AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I read on Intel's website that to cut costs AMD have designed it to be slower than the original Phenom.

why on earth would AMD spend millions/billions of dollars making a chip that was slower than their previous range?? i think some people need to just accept the fact no one has released anything 'official' about these chips that can be taken seriously. there have been screenshots claiming to be results from the new BD chips, but anything useful has been blanked out, meaning its either fake or the figures arent an accurate representation of the final product.
its all just speculation, and you have to take what you read with a pinch of salt and use your own common sense.
BD will be here when its here and official figures will eventually be released. until then :
intel fanboys and trolls will release false claims about it being slow
amd fanboys will release false claims saying its awesome
everyone else will just sit back and wait

Half this thread is based on tea leaves, negative Intel fanboy rhetoric, dodgy doctored images and questionable (often unintelligible) journalism.

I was merely joining in on the act, albeit with a large dollop of sarcasm!

but in text it is hard to pick up on tone, so by joining in all you are doing is fueling the haters and confusing the unaware.

err, unless AMD accidently stopped time as a byproduct of making their CPUs, yes :)

I'll just wait for Anandtech review followed by UK pricing, then get an Ivy Bridge ;)

Have to be honest as soon as i read it i knew it was an attempt at humour and stating the source as intels website really should have given the game away lol. Point it does prove is just how overly serious some are taking this and that is not a good sign everyone needs to back off and relax a bit.

If you need to vent a spleen may i suggest you do it in the direction of AMD they have to have some concrete figures by now they could release. I honestly don't see what harm at this point some useful info could do to their plans.

Does AMD marketing thinks they are going to increase market share by promoting super technical features like 'unlocked CPU', 'TDP Capping' - targetted to average PC users?
Balancing performance/power useage should be done by the hardware vendor (by dedicated specialists).
Or automatic, or by diversifying their range of products.

I hope they delay Bulldozer until they can make this crap redundant.

The exposé / launch / benches come on the 16th of July.

As I said before, I'll be surprised if it's not on shelves within a month of that and shocked if it's longer than 6 weeks.

I don't think they are promoting TDP capping to average home users? (Unless the average home user runs a large datacentre)
It could actually be quite a good idea for the sector it's aimed at...

Quite right. Anyway, Interlagos and servers / workstations aside, desktop Zambezi is hardly marketed towards 'average users' - that's Llano.

Whoosh ...:D

I indeed mis-read targetted market,
however, my point could also be made for them.
'Reduce power consumption without impacting perfomance'
Why should you need such an option?
If it is true, shouldn't that be always on?
This for me is marketing hype, and if such an option exists it is to compromize the one or the other.
I think datacenters buy the best hardware for their needs (and therefore need straight forward and accurate numbers), and balance workloads at higher levels (tasks and resources).

Density of racks, cost per unit and thermal dissipation (influencing the former and the cost of air conditioning) are the main factors. So these features are huge for data centres.
