Talk to me about Australia

Areas that i would say to avoid is palm beach a lot of people like to go there however when i visited i was quite underwhelmed nothing too spectacular to see or do here and with the time you have available there are far better places to visit plus anywhere to eat around there is well over priced.

I thought Palm Beach was beautiful, unspoilt and well worth the visit. It's only a 45 minute drive out of Sydney as well, and costs nothing.

Why wouldn't you visit

Over a grand for a flight to Perth?!

Can't say I'm overly surprised; I monitored the prices of flights to Australia for a long time (went there for honeymoon) and found them to be extremely volatile, not just in terms of the dates you travel (which is the same for most destinations) but just in general. When I started looking flights to Sydney were around £700. Around six months later they had dropped to ~£500. When I started looking to book they were even lower if you grabbed special deals, say £400 and even as low as £240 at one point (special deal when the Ashes were on, based on a cricket score!). Then some months later they had crept back up to around £800 or so. Perth is typically more expensive to fly to than Sydney as well. Air taxes have gone up quite a bit.

The thing about flights to Australia is that a large amount of the cost is going to be going on fuel (and the tax on it) which contributes to the volatility.

For internal Australia flights, Virgin blue is he best, although obviously Qantas is really good aswell.

Personally, I would NEVER go to australia as it has too much ****ed up wildlife that will kill you. :(

What? Qantas is rubbish for internal flights as they are expensive - which makes sense given that Qantas itself runs Jetstar, which is it's low cost arm.

Why are you dispensing advice on internal flights if you've never go there anyway!

I agree that its a nice place some wonderful views but from my own personal experience stopping off anywhere to eat and drink was extortionate. With visiting numerous other places in Australia many of which i've forgotten i think its a tad over rated i.e Blue mountains i know its not the coast but still... But again it depends on the type of holiday if you are restricted to going to places only near or around sydney maybe because of being on a tight budget i'd say visit it (but don't stop off anywhere to eat or drink if on a budget :)) but if going far a field i'd say there are far more other places to enjoy and see which are a lot more spectacular. Sorry didn't really explain myself very well..

p.s. probably didnt help it was overcast that day as well :p

I have friends that go there so know a bit about travel. Also used to really want to go there, but changed my mind when I saw how many spider there were  and I had done quite a lot of research

Qantas might be premium, however, If you phone them up and ask about booking the international and domestic flights together, they give good luggage allowances and sometimes give discounts.

In 6 weeks I saw not a single spider.

Qantas are certainly not premium - I wouldnt fly Long Haul with them. My point is that for domestic flights they are not particularly cheap, either, and neither do they have to be because they've got Jetstar for that, who they run in order to compete with Virgin Blue.

It's Virgin Blue and Jetstar you should be looking at for internal flights.

In the 3 weeks I was there I saw 2 Huntsman one of which was almost as big as your face and 3 Golden Orbs.

Think os Oz as England in the 70's with beaches.

I love Britain and IMO Australia is over rated and I honestly dont see what the fuss is about. Am going to go back there as my wife wants to see her sister, but the wife felt the same as me.

Lived in the UK all my life but been living in Australia the last 11 months.

Absolutely love it, the UK has the upper hand on a few things but overall Australia wins in my opinion!

Definately on the weather and I love the idea of the councils putting BBQs at the beach that is a really nice touch unfortunately if that happened in the Uk they would be wrecked.

I also found that women are a lot more smiley which was very nice.

You mean flip flops? Lol

:D

I did make a big thread about South Australia on here once, I did a write up of Adelaide then lost all motivation and never finished it with all the other regions of the state:p
Although the thread will have some good info in it if you can still find it.:)

who did other people who have been book flights with? cairns is circa £700-£800 form what i can see. how does one go about booking an open ticket, is that something that has to be done specially or do i choose return and the return date is flexible?

The Broadband over here is slow and costs way to much...

In fact, aussie is the most expensive place ive ever lived!! (i still import games/dvds & jeans/tshirts from uk)

Its ******* hot in summer and its rains a lot too, now its winter and still hits 21/22...

wish i was back in the UK...not!! haha... there're hot tanned chicks everwhere!! :p

The women in general are a lot hotter and much more plentiful. They're everywhere, i'm still gobsmacked.

I was in California for a holiday in May and they had nothing on Australia!

Yup, broadband here sucks. I've got 20mb but it costs me $130 a month (70-80GBP) and I have a download limit of 600GB.

Everything here is very expensive.

Shirt for work? $80.
Beer? $9
etc
