Anyone else see this as a little bit odd?

If I was on the dole and struggling to find work I think I would feel a little bit put out seeing the dole office staff striking.

Their job's a joke anyway, they are supposed to help you find work, which usually just equates to them putting in a code into their search engine and asking would you like to apply for this. However they are being asked to be tough on jobseekers, if there isn't enough evidence on the logbook (which is literally stupid: 'checked newspaper'), "you need to do more to up hold your end of the agreement".

Are the security guards working? Still the oddest thing about jobcentre's tbh.

Nothing odd about security guards at the job centre, have you not seen some of the scum that enter the place, being overly aggressive etc?

When I was on the dole a couple of years ago a man came in, ripped off a monitor from a stand and proceeded to smash it up before storming out.

It's a hard time for people in their lives. Security guards are understandable.

The one thing I don't appreciate is the no mobile phones pish.

I don't think they actually have a legal basis for telling people to put them away.

You try standing in a queue for an hour while some stupid bint talks as loudly as she can down her phone in a whiney voice for the entire time.

EDIT: And in their own premises they can tell you to do pretty much whatever they like.

Not all people are stupid bints with whiney voices, and not everyone pulls a mobile phone out of their pocket to even talk.

They are public buildings, and while they do have a managerial responsibility I do not think they have have a legal basis for threatening ejection, or ejecting people, from a public service because of the act of merely having a mobile phone in your hand.

Have you had this actually happen to you? Imo no phone signs generally mean just no talking on your phone. Playing a game without sound shouldn't be an issue for example.

Yes. I wasn't talking, I had it in my hand before I was rudely interrupted and threatended by a 4GS guard.

I witnessed him there on after acting very overzealously with other people doing the same, on more than one day also.

Again, as far as I am aware there is no legal justification in this behaviour.

Indeed. I was on the dole for 6 weeks or so a while back, and some of the clientele were very undesirable. My sister worked in the job centre for a while and said that some of the people were absolutely wretched.

All the advisors do is check you've wrote down three things each week in your jobseekers diary. You're in and out within 2 minutes of sitting down.

The guards (or whatever they are) 99% of the time are just stood there, checking off names at the reception or checking to see if you have a job seekers card/sign on book as you pass them to go up to the second/third floor to sign on.

It's hardly a back breaking job...boring as hell..but not back breaking. But then again i've not been there when/if they've had undesirable folks in being violent, so they might have some nasty stuff to deal with.

I had this happen to me not so long back.

'no phones! you can't use that in here' blah blah

The irony was it was an agency calling about arranging an interview.

I hate the job center and i hate the government for nearly destroying my mum's life!, I also hate them for pulling the disability work scheme and putting thousands of disabled back out in limbo.

When I was on the dole I hated the job centre. Found employment without them in the end. ALl they did was sign my sheet without even really checking it, printed off some vacancies and told me to apply for those vacancies. Less than 2 minutes total.

Went in today and eveything was normal for me.

The security guards always seem like a bad joke to me. Has anyone got any more interesting stories of actually seeing the security guards having to deal with scum?

Fair enough, but is their presence warranted? Do they have to lead people around, admit them through security doors, etc.

Surely they can be sat in a cosy room, and called upon if the situation arises. All the banks in the local area have less security in terms of guards.

Before she went through the appeal process ESA because of her health, i came into the job center put my hand on my mum's shoulder and asked if she was alright. The Security guy walked upto me and said

" Come away please, you're not allowed to be near her while she's in an interview "

This was in an open room, nobody in a queue and another person sat near her to one side also talking to the tossers behind the desk
