NEW 911 (991) tested by C&D!!

The 911 is an icon and gets better with each new model by any objective judgement. People buy 911's in the main not because 'it's a 911', but because it's a truly exceptional day to day sports car than no one has come close to matching. People who criticise people for being sheep and buying 911's do it in the vast majority of cases from the position of ignorance. Things are bloody epic, this new one will be the same, wait and see.

It is peerless and has been pretty much all it's life, that is why Porsche don't change it much.

It'll be a lovely car for sure, and great performance figures.

I would still take a 996 c4s, I love the shape and is only beaten in my eyes by a select few 997s. Also cheaper!

Can't wait to see some of the 991s on the road.

I'd rather get a 933 c4s by a country mile, stunningly beautiful!

I think we just have different views on those cars, me i cant for the life of me see how 180 mph and under 5 seconds to 60 in a package more usable every day than anything else with that performance is anything other than a bloody masterpiece of car making weather its a "basic" C2 or not.

is it more usable day to day than your GT superspeed? or an m5? :p

(i get your point though, as this will leave be far better on a twisty road :D)

Thats a good question, the Bentley will cost you a lot more to run and also if you are comparing new for new not a new Porsche against a used Bentley the Bentley will cost 1/3 as much again to buy.

But you can drive a Bentley every day, docile in traffic, fit your shopping in etc, dont break down.

Stop adding bits, M5 model for model a Porsche is just a better car, what im saying is a 996 was better than an e39 a 997 better than a e60 etc, but they are very different cars 2 doors against 4 anyway that of course is just an opinion, not a detraction from M5s.

Its all just win aint it especially that Panamera console.

Anyway my main man Housey summed it up top man he is.

4 inch extra wheelbase just means in between kicking arse they gonna cruise better.

I've got to say, the interior is a massive improvement.

I've always disliked the interior in Porsches. Infact, that might be one of the few differentiators between an E92 M3 and 997 C2S for me as my next car.

I dont know why they bother making an S and a non-S version of the Carrera. No one wants the standard Carrera in 2nd hand markets and even when new, there was hardly any price difference (£5000 or something similar) between the C2 and the C2S.

Big reason, Porsche sell more non-S than they do S I believe? Put it this way I see a lot more non-S than S cars on the roads around here. :)

I think the non-S suits the image type customer perfectly who just wants a 911 because its a 911 and buy it more due to pose/badge/911 appeal. Owners of S cars are probably more interested in the driving dynamics and enjoying the car and either could not afford a GT3 or find the GT3 too harsh to use as a daily driver.

The S when spec'd right is the perfect solution for someone who wants a more focused 911, but find the GT3 a bit too hardcore, so it fills that middle gap nicely. :)

As a GT3 owner who has driven mine, his findings was my car due to its spec felt superior to the 996 GT3. :)

thats one annoying thing about porsche.

The next model is always better.

Plenty of other new cars come out, where you think to yourself "nah, i'd rather have the old one" Unless you're talking about the classics, like for example a 993 turbo or a 964 RS, rarely is this the case for 911s.

Aye everyone hated the 996, but most still purchased one. :D

Then the 997 came along and all was happy. :D

This new one will be a better car, just not 100% on the styling yet, but shall be about seeing one in the flesh. :)

I liked the 996 once you got rid of those fried egg lights it was a winner.

I didn't hate the 996, most people didn't hate the 996, just the lights that some people seem to have an issue with and I think they didn't quite work, but no one was fussed when the cars we new. Also, for 1999 I don't think the interior was that bad either.

..and even with 383bhp compared to 415bhp, it's all about how you launch em :)
