Is it a Notherner trait to randomly increase and decrease their speaking volume when on the phone?

This is an honest question she just posed to me. :D

It's a woman thing. Not a location thing. My mum or cousins go up a level when on the phone. When you raise the TV volume to compensate for their being inconsiderate, they also adjust their volume and then throw evil eyes at you. Instead of getting off their arse and having their conversation in private and not disrupting everyone else in the room.

I find it very irritating when people change how loud they are talking on the phone, or as most people seem to do, shout.

Surly everyone changes their volume depending on how loud the other person is over the phone. Just like in a club you near enough to need to shout. However with a phone there's no really feed back, as they maybe hearing you fine, but they are coming over quite to you.

definitely a northern woman thing, my grandmother ( scottish ) used to scream down the phone as if she was physically trying to cover the 200 Mile distance between us lmao

This is the most annoying thing.

Whenever I'm in the lounge and get a phone call I go out because people are watching TV.

But if a woman is on the phone in the lounge, they won't get out and you can't hear **** on the tele and if you tell them they have a go at you.

Grinds my gears.

What's even worse is that if you don't take the call outside, they'll have a go at you... double standards much?

My mum talks louder on the phone when she can't hear me very well, I can hear her fine, it means I have to keep turning the volume down. lol

Quite the opposite here in fact!

My dad (northern) seems to think you need to shout down the phone for someone on the other end to hear you. He also tries to put on a posh accent on the phone which is hilarious :p

I was at the vets the other day and my mum was talking to the secretary, suddenly the phone goes and she picks it up then she completely changes her voice, it was really weird.
