TOUGHER road safety measures are being introduced to cut road deaths and are aimed at speeding motorists, drink drivers and motorcyclists.

In all, 18 measures are being introduced. They include:
• A ban on radar detectors
• The end of signs giving advance warning of speedtraps (and the published maps of speedtrap sites)
• Speeding at more than 50kph above the limit is punishable with jail
• More points to be taken off the licence for drink driving
• A heavier penalty for mobile phone use and for using DVDs or computer screens while driving
• Motorcycle and scooter riders must wear reflective or high-visibility jackets
• Two-wheeler numberplates to be made larger.

(Sorry if this has been posted before..Did a quick search and didn't see anything)

Good ideas.

Poor ideas.

when people slam on the brakes after only just spotting a camera.
I automatically hit the brakes when i saw a mobile speed trap last week and i wasn't even speeding..

That the problem with speed traps that just appear out of no wear and catch you by surprise..first thing you think is s*** and hit the brakes...

There's been a few times I've nearly gone into the back of people when they've done this. My 106 doesn't stop as quick as a lot of cars, so when they slam on the brakes from 70 completely out of the blue it could have ended badly if I wasn't paying attention. I just can't see how causing more of that can be justified in the name of safety!?

How does increasing the size of bikes number plates make the roads safer?

Froggies appear to be beating the last gasp out of the "speed kills" horse
