how hard is it to overclock an amd phenom ii x4 955 BE to about 3.8Ghz?
Considering it is half of the price of the i5 2500k, if i got that instead and overclocked it to say 3.8- 3.9 maybe 4.0Ghz would it be more beneficial to get that phenom ii instead of the i5 2500k?

I reached 3.8 on my chip but it did require quite a significant voltage boost (but well within AMDs limits). If I were you though I would either buy a 2500k if you can afford it or if you can wait until later this year when AMD will be releasing the bulldozer chips :)

Even OC, I don't it will compare to an i5. The 2500K is one of the easiest to OC so that OC would destroy the 955.

In answer to your first question, it is simple to overclock any of the Black Edition CPU's because they have an unlocked multiplier.

Mine went to 3.8 without the need to tinker with anything else at all.... just adjusting the multiplier.

Dead easy.....
