I originally purchased an XFX 5850 (from another site) but its faulty so I'm sending it back for a refund. Basically I'm willing to spend upto £140 and I want the best bang for my bucks my only preference is that it will be relatively quiet and not sound like a jet engine. I don't mind what brand it is.

Thanks,

Both the 460's are interesting me but it doesn't specify what is meant by 'b-grade', will they be used and not come with warranty ?.

Clearance items come with a 90 day warranty. The box may look a bit worse for wear, there will be no extra cables or disks etc. It's a no frills product, just the card and nothing else.

The price for the 460 is good, and it might then be good enough for your main card when you update your rig. However, you won't be getting the most out of the 460 right now if you do buy it, as I'm sure you are aware your cpu will be holding it back somewhat. This is why I placed slightly more emphasis on the 250gts, 'tis cheaper too.

I have a Phenom II 955 X4 and 4GB of RAM, will it hold back a 460 ?.

Sorry! I was answering another thread! lol :o :D

No, you'll be fine, good sir. :) The 460 would be an absolute bargain, though as mentioned by someone else, a brand new 5850 would also be an excellent choice. (Forget the 250gts btw).

I have 500w Corsair Builder Series PSU, will that be ok to power the card and my other stuff (2 HDD's & a DVD-rw) ?.

The prices for the b-graded 460's is great but I'm a little put off by the short warranty but I guess that's why they are so cheap.

2nd hand 5870. No contest. You can pick up two and crossfire for less than the price of their replacement (6970) and get better performance.

Unless you prefer the green cards... in whcih case, not sure :D

I ended up going for one of the clearance line deals, a MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB.

I think it should be a tad better than my 7600GT ;)

That's the exact card I have, I overclock it to 900Mhz core and 2000Mhz on the memory for gaming. Obviously isn't as good as the more expensive solutions but it runs all the games I play at high graphics settings very respectably considering the price. :)

I'm a bit worried that my PSU isn't gonna be powerul enough for all my kit.

AMD Phenom II 955BE x4
MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB
Gigabyte MA770-UD3
4gb Corsair XM3 Memory
2x Samsung Spinpoint HDD's
Pioneer DVD-Writer
Corsair 500W Builder Series PSU

Should be fine I imagine. If you decide to run both Prime95 and Furmark at the same time for 24 hours it might be a bit unhappy, but under normal usage I'd say 500W will be enough as it's a good PSU.
