6 ohm amp and 8 ohm speakers

I'd expect the 6 ohms is simply the impedance value that the manufacturer decided to rate the amplifier's power output at, and makes the Watts per channel look higher than if they had rated it at 8 ohms. It doesn't mean that the speakers need to be 6 ohms to work at their best.
I don't know those speakers or others at that price point, I'm afraid but it's not a lot of money for floor-standers. Best advice would be to listen to as many options in your price bracket as you can before you buy.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up. The speakers will never be used anywhere near their full potential in my small apartment anyway.

There's nowhere near me where I can go and listen to a decent selection of speakers, so I was going buy the reviews and reputation that Celestion has with those speakers. Also, being maple coloured, they will go perfectly with the rest of my furniture. Colour co-ordination is important, or my OCD goes crazy!

If its a small apartment then I would be looking at a set of stand mount speakers instead, you will get a better speaker for your money, you only really need floorstanders in a big room.

As above regarding the impedence, it will be fine, what amp is it anyway?

This was my intention, but whilst looking I found the Celestions and really liked the look of them, plus they have always had a good rep, and those speakers are at a very good price due to them being end of line.

Do you have any suggestions for stand mount speakers around the £100 mark? I've heard Wharfdale Diamonds are pretty good.

EDIT:

Just noticed these:

It's a Sony micro hifi that I use with my iPod:
