Looking for a new car, cant decide

Fuel consumption is ALWAYS a concern, why would you want to pay for 250bhp car levels of fuel usage only to drive a car with the performance of a 2 litre Mondeo? It would just be annoying.

I personally feel that as a package, the fuel economy wouldn't bother me. So my weekly fuel usage might be £12 rather than £10.... I can't see that annoying me.

I do, however, want to do a bit more research into the IS300 especially around insurance. Sky quoted me very competitively on some other faster cars, so will call them tomorrow.

Then it offers the performance of a slow car :p

And when performance isn't that important? Its quick enough to not be annoying and a very good drive otherwise

Then it's a car, just like any other really. Might as well buy a cheap diesel mondeo.

Performance and economy aren't the only factors in a cars appeal though. The IS has the edge over the mondeo in everything that matters to me at the moment. Ride, handling, equipment level, quality, style.

So I could get something that performs like a 2.0 mondeo and has the fuel economy of one - save myself 2 or 3 quid a week and have an car I'm less happy with. Or I could buy a 250bhp car with the same fuel economy, never really get to use the power but still have to pay the insurance and maintenance associated with one.

From what I can gather, the performance and fuel economy are pretty much on par with the mondeo 2.5 v6, the very car that was recommended originally. Edit - the mondeo v6 is 0.9 quicker to 60 amd 1mpg less efficient.
