The pre built XPS desktop i wish to order comes with a 460watt power supply.

taking into consideration the following specs would it be safe to install a GTX560ti?

  • Intel® Core™ i5-2300 Processor (2.80GHz, 6MB)
  • 4096MB Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz [2x2048] Memory
  • 1TB Serial ATA (7,200 rpm)
  • DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD)

£550 delivered.

Dell want £310 for a gtx560ti lol !
i'd rather buy the card half price form overclockers thanks :)

PS- i could drop down to a gtx460 if it would be safer.
(i dont wish for an ATI card thanks)

I would personally upgrade the PSU as well. Perhaps this is why they are charging so much for the card, it may include a PSU upgrade as well.

Even so. I'd still upgrade the PSU. Something like the Antec Gamer 620W. Much better!

Why not buy the bits yourself? It's not like Dell are going to provide a warranty if you then take it apart and change half of it. You will almost certainly need to change the stock PSU. While a good PSU like a Seasonic would have no issues running said rig with a GTX560 Ti, the Dell PSU might not be gifted with the same power.

Also, why get a GTX560 Ti? For similar money you could have a 6950 1GB which is as fast, if not faster, or future-proof yourself a little and get the 2GB one for a smidge more. You say you don't want ATI, but if I may be so bold, you're planning on buying a Dell PC and putting a card in? I call any past problems PEBCAK to be honest.

If dell is charging £360 for a 560Ti imagine how much they're ripping you off on the rest of that PC. I guarantee it will be more.

Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £173.99

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £167.99

MSI P67A-GD53 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £114.98

OCZ StealthXStream 2 600W Power Supply £50.99

Antec 100 One Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £43.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) £43.99

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £34.99

Samsung SH-S222AB/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM 16.99

Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler 28.99

Total = 683.41 with your free shipping.

A better system for cheaper than what you would pay for the Dell + seperate 560Ti. There maybe a cheaper/better PC for the same price people can come up with on here but this is an idea of how Dell rip you off.

EDIT: Ahahahah they're charging 430 quid for a 6950!

thanks for the replys guys.
I dont wish to build my own pc, infact i'd rather eat a broken glass sandwich.
had many pc from dell with no issue in the past.
dont want an ati card, its easier sleeping with a supermodel than to update the drivers.
PS- it wasnt £360 for the card upgrade it was £310. im suspecting it may be because of a hidden psu upgrade as well ?

In which case I refer you to the earlier post:

I just don't understand why you want a pre-build, only to change it, rather than just build it to start with. It's not difficult?

i only want to upgrade the graphics card. its a 5 minute job.
i dont want to build a whole pc, some people just "dont want to"

:)

That's what I suggested in post 2. While I agree with everyone here that you shouldn't buy a Dell for the obvious reasons. I can understand you don't want the hassle. Not everyone is inclined to piece together the parts.

I would however, urge you to look elsewhere at other pre built systems, perhaps from OcUK. Better warranty and branded parts.

Back to the OP, i think you would be fine on that PSU, you may need a pci-e adapter splitter thing as it'll probably only have one pci-e lead anyway, from experience with several dells in the past the PSU's arent actually bad
