Took the plunge and bought another 5870 today from ocuk for crossfire mode on a MSI 890GXM-G65 board. Not tested much, but i think it's working! GPUZ says its enabled and it's also enabled in CCC. I didn't need to install any drivers however, Win7 detected the new hardware and updated accordingly which is nice.

Just running 3D mark 11 now and won't post results up.

Nice :D looks like a sweet little setup.

Would be curious to see temps on those cards under furmark in that little space.

Coming right up, ignore the min temperature cos 3DMark has just stopped so its not had time to cool down yet. Top card idles around 50c and bottom card around 36c.

Top card 82c and bottom card 65c in roughly around 22c room temp.

Please note that my cpu is no longer OC'd as i wanted to test for stability first before turning the heat up.

This is all run on a Corsair HX650W PSU.

That's quite a low 3d mark score isn't it?

My mate has crossfire 5870s and I am sure his system was more around 8000 points.

Very nice fitting that into that system, what are the dimensions of your case? - never mind, I just saw your sig.

The CPU score brought down the overall score which is running at stock 3.2ghz. The GPU score on its own is 8400points which is pretty much double what a standard 5870 would get.

dont forget cpu makes up a chunk of the scores too.

+1

You could try to swap these two cards for less difference of temperature.

Good idea, i didn't think of that! I thought i had a 5850 at one point because it was so much shorter than the referrence card i had :S...

Well I get an almost identical score to a friend who is running the same graphics card as me but a phenom 2 955 at 4ghz, when I am running an i7 920 at 4ghz.

The only scores that seem to change between us are the cpu scores, which seem to make no difference to the overall mark.

Fair enough.
