It depends on your definition which every year becomes more and more watered down.
So it's important to agree definition before a debate.
I see it as
Atheism is a belief that a deity can not exist.
Agnosticism is don't care, never thought about it, proof of existence or non existence is untestable.
But there's also a lot of other stuff, like a belief no abhamic god exists and a lot of other positions.
proof of existence or non existence is untestable.
They're both beliefs. Atheists however are as funamental in the belief that their belief is right as religious types while denying they are as fundamental in their belief.
I see it as:
Atheism - you think the chance of there being a god is so remote that it simply can't be possible and anyone that disagrees with your stance is an ignorant idiot who doesn't know anything, so you'll shoot your mouth off about all the boring philosophical texts you've read in regards to the existence of said deity in an attempt to appear like you know what you're talking about despite knowing nothing at all.
Agnosticism - you think there might be a god, might not, don't care.
Fixed that for you.
Potentially noobish question.
Are these much the same or is the fact that with atheism you choose to not believe in a god, a religion in itself?![]()
You realise how hypocritical you're looking here, yes? Some Atheists may well be how you describe, but saying they're all like that, every single one, makes you just as bad as the few ignorant ones.
Fixed that for you.
Plenty of religious people will do the exact same thing to 'disbelievers'.
Or maybe I'm trolling and you're getting your panties in a twist because you believe someone is wrong like every Atheist ever.
Apparently I'm an agnostic atheist: I think it extremely unlikely that a 'higher power' exists, but acknowledge that I cannot be absolutely sure that it doesn't.
