Steam Summer Sale 2011

I'm not too sure what to buy, I've never heard about half of the games on Steam. Being new to PC gaming, what would you guys recommend? I just purchased Fallout: New Vegas and the expansions and I loved it on the 360 (Didn't finish it though).

Here's my game list: :)

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis
ArmA 2 Combined Operations /w BAF & PMC
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 /w Vietnam
Grand Theft Auto IV /w EFLC
Killing Floor /w DA2 Mod (Thanks to madindehead :D)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat
Total War: SHOGUN 2

Any suggestions? I'm open to anything. :p

Should keep an eye on the other digital providers like gamersgate... I got Civ 5 for £6.78 a few days ago during a sale

GOG is pretty cool too.. if you ain't heard of them they basically take older games and reboot/make them work on more recent operating systems i.e. win7.. which personally I like cause I'd rather pay £3 for the game to work than spend 1-2 hours crawling the web (especially with the risk of third party fixes)

They got access to some of EA's back stuff (BULLFROG!) and already got dungeon keeper up there :)
Just waiting on them to do dk2 and the "theme" games

@ Missle

Not reconizing a title shouldn't put you off, it usually means you've simply had less exposure to it.. not all the developers are big ones

For example I paid £2 for defense grid and a while back £5 for cnc4. The difference between these 2 games is millions of pounds in development and advertising yet I feel if I'd had to pay £10 for defense grid, I'd still had been happy with what i got, in comparison to paying the retail cost of around £15-20 for cnc4.. which by the way I would discourage people from :P

If you want a decent cnc game thats recent just go with cnc3 + the add on

.... well i'm not buying for the sake of buying :o

True.... Sensible tactics are only to have 6 months of games at a time queued.

Other games would then be cheaper by the next sale, and the next sale and so on...

Why I've avoided The Witcher 2, Portal 2 etc....

Dungeon Keeper 2 would be an instant buy from me on GOG. I have installed the 2nd one many a time and always run into problems about 50% into the game. Or to play the game stable I cannot raise the resolution above 800x600.

Bought some indie games last night. One of then cost me a whole pound!!

I was actually looking for games for my niece's BDay but some were so cheap and fun I bought them for myself :p

Get the doom pack tbh. Very good value for that price. I'm also waiting to see if a quake pack pops up on it as quake 4 wasn't exactly bad and quake 3/team arena and the ones before it all had really good multiplayer.

Quake 3/team arena multiplayer must be dead by now with Quake Live being free, I would have thought.

Also pretty sure Quake 4 isn't included in the Quake pack.

sucks it takes 10 days to transfer money from my bank to paypal so i am going to miss out on these deals..

Can't you use a direct card purchase or just link PP to your debit/credit card?

And yes, FO:NV is a steal at that price. I've brought the DLC blind assuming it's as good at the DLC for FO3, hell its £2, bargin.

You haven't registered a credit/debit card to your Steam account?
I never knew you could use Paypal to pay for Steam items.

Yeah you can... if you want to run the risk of Paypal deciding in its infinite wisdom to randomly issue a charge-back which leaves steam with no choice but to permanently ban your account, forcing you to jump through hoops to get Paypal to admit it did it without your consent so Steam will re-open it.

In other words, don't use Paypal for Steam purchases...
