I’m thinking of getting into photography so need recommending a good camera around the £300 mark with lenses.

I don’t want a point and click camera as I already had 1.

I want something that will take great pictures but still be small and mobile don’t even mind if its second hand off eBay.

Idea ideas?

Sony Nex-3 if you can find one might be up your alley.

http://www.nex-3.co.uk/

The 3 has been discontinued for the new c3 but tbh there isn't a lot of difference. If you are lucky you can get a new one for £300+ with the 18-55mm lens on.

The new one is due out end of July so no doubt be able to pick it up even cheaper second hand as people upgrade as well.

I use a Nex-5 which is pretty much the same as the 3 if you want to see my flickr to see what it's like.

It's the size of a Point and Shoot with a dslr sensor in. for thoughts on it you can visit other nex specific forums like dpreview ones.

Other choices are microd 4/3rds cameras of the samsung NX range, it's no longer easy to just say get this one as there is a lot of choice at the entry level end along with different choices. You may need to do a bit of research before buying.

I got a 400d and kit lends and 50mm 1.8 for 250 including batteries, memory cards etc. A good way to get started, but if you do get into I the upgrade bug will hit pretty hard and you'll want a 40/50d :)

Definately go second hand so you can sell on with minimal loss if you either dont get into it or get into it and want somethin bigger/better!

The 400d now looks like a toy with my 70-200 f4L onthe front, and low light / high ISO performance really let's it down, but it was undoubtedly the best way to get into it!

Yea thats what i was thinking as you can get the 400d kit with lens about £200-£250 on ebay which is around what i want to pay.

whats the biggest card i can fit in a 400d, would a 32gb be ok?

32gb is excessive and dangerous for the data-loss potential. Get a bunch of 8GB cards instead.

Also, I'd like to recommend the Lumix TZ10. I've just got back from holiday and have been playing with this more over the past week than I ever have before, and found that it can do one hell of a lot of the stuff my 40D can do. Obviously the image quality won't be the same, but it won't be far off that of a kit lens, and you can still get very much into photography that will be cheaper, more compact, and still do everything you need.

It has all the manual settings (Shutter, aperture, program and manual), has loads of scene modes that work well, and a huge focal length.. 16x which equates to 24-384mm in the 35mm equivalent.

Anyway, I'll stop going on. You can decide it you're interested or not and research it if you are :) The TZ18 and TZ20 are also the latter models that add a bit more, but will obviously cost you too.

got my 400d last night. only been playing with it for like an hour and got the following pictures which i think are ok for a first timer.

i can already see the limitations of the stock 18-55mm lens.
