To the uninitiated, GD can seem like a confusing and hectic place. Many a new member has set foot the wrong side of the FAQ as a consequence; from not understanding the humour, outright spamming to try and fit-in and be heard, or reacting negatively the strange quirks of this place.

To the old hands: what advice would you give to lurkers thinking of taking the plunge into GD to avoid the pitfalls and aid in their longevity?

1. Obviously, read the FAQ.

Don't post too frequently. This is considered "spamming" even if it is relevant, and people will subsequently "troll" you.

Or is that just me and BTR :D

2. it's an internet forum. do NOT take it too seriously but remember that there is a person behind every username so try not to offend. never say anything about their mum for example.

dont try to be a smart ar*e ;)
dont make a thread about change of username or you have 1000 posts ;):D

Ignore anything from the totally obnoxious posters with a high post and a god complex.

Though I will say, it does seem many of the new members recently are just here to troll, or they are alt accounts with a bone to pick.

Grammar and spelling - check it before posting.

NEVER use "u" in place of "you" and other things of the text talk like nature. EVER. Unless you like being flamed that is. :D

If you're going to ask a girl out in Asda, have the balls to go through with it before making a thread and stringing everyone along for several weeks.

... and never try to diss pancakes, pancake day or anything therein.

Don't insult other members

Don't post blatant troll posts or threads

Don't try and be funny, you either are or you aren't :p

Don't ever associate your personal info with this forum, Tefal will rape you.

Not sure on many others :)

Never agree with popular posters. Argue against everything they say (even if you agree) just to annoy them and send them into a frothy mouthed posting frenzy.
