Hi all

I just purchased a Titan Spinosaur system from OCUK having just bought components in the past

Purchase went well system is very nice but I have had two problems one minor one disappointing

Minor - headphone jack very stiff and only works intermittently OCUK have agreed to send a replacement yet to turn up

Disappointing - The Z68 bundled is the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P a very nice looking and solid mobo but it has no video out sockets and does not support Virtu i.e. no quicksync WHAT, i thought that was the point of the Z68

OCUK did not make this clear in the spec, i was a Muppet for not checking but now i have a system that cost a fair bit and doesn't support this feature.

I have written a review against the Spinosaur warning buyers that the system doesn't support quicksync 2 days ago which surprise surprise hasn't been published IS THIS NORMAL FOR OCUK

To OCUK's credit they have offered a refund and then a re-purchase against a system with a specified Mobo but they still haven't changed the spec on their site and its hard to figure out which system does or doesnt support the feature

Lesson learned if all of the reviews are 5 star and positive MAYBE they have been filtered DUH!!

Yep, Gigabytes motherboards suck big time.

They took a P67 PCB and swapped the chipsets over as they are pin compatible, a quick rename later and they sell it for more money.

You really do have to read the Gigabyte website tech specs to see which ones are full fledged Z68 boards with all the features, checking the specs at the manufacturer website is the only way of knowing exactly whats what.

But finding out the motherboard used in the systems is difficult, a webnote to sales or a question in the customer support section about the specs will usually be answered.

To be fair do you own a program that can be used with quicksync?
At the moment I can guarantee you that the people who own Z68 boards are probably not using any of the 3 extra features support by the boards, for gaming you won't see any benefits which is why they are probably still selling them.
None of the current Gigabyte boards support these features.
It is always worth doing your research before buying a rig aswell.

Glad they refunded you though. You going to try and build your own rig now?

I find this with a lot of the pre-built PCs. If it says Z68 mobo then it's probably the cheapest one, you gotta remember OcUK is a business. I would probably have checked out what mobo before buying as you said. Stulid has brought up before that the Gigabyte Z68 boards are a bit ****.

A bit strange with the reviews as I have seen some reviews for things before where they are basically just trolling. Maybe their filtering was because of this and has now given them the option of being a bit selective.

Oh well at least they offered a return. Are you going to get a different one?

i use arcsofts media converter 7 a lot, and with virtu it is massivly quicker.

Sometimes it takes a few days for the reviews to be posted. They need to be pre-approved, and I imagine their staff have better things to do that, read reviews on products all day.
My review for the Antec Df 30 took about 3-4 days to go up iirc.

Z68

What attracted me to a prebuilt was the ability to buy an overclocked PC with a warranty, as I have built pcs but never overclocked them before.

I have decided to hang on to it and maybe swap out the mobo later. When Nvidia release synergy that will probably sort things out for me. Such a faff to return it, I was hoping OCUK would send a replacement with a proper mobo and let me return mine.

It a shame that OCUK don't state which mobo is in the bundle and yes you are all correct I should have checked DOH

hi, sorry to bump an old thread, but I may be ordering one of these spinosaurs on wednesday (should it be in the deal!) a couple questions:

What mobo would I realistically be able to ask for? I dont want to just get whatever they have in stock or 'whatever is lying around', such as what happened with the original poster.

OCZ Vertez 2 vs Agility 3 - which should I get?

newbie here so go easy! many thanks for any help given

You need to ask in Pre-Sales Queries what particular motherboard they're using now.

It will have changed in the last 3 months as they don't stock the Z68X-UD3P any longer.

If you're not happy with the motherboard they use then they may be able to change it for you at extra cost (assuming the one you want is more expensive).
