Antibes plug hole changed direction?

Hi all,

I was in the shower just now and the water was going down the plug hole anti-clockwise but whilst I was watching it it changed to clockwise and then after a minute or two back to anti-clockwise and now it's going clockwise again!

Thought it was supposed to go the same way all the time?

/edit my iPhone has decided that Antibes is more of a real word than anyones.

Cheers,

G

At the scale of your shower or toilet coriolis forces will have virtually no effect, the moving water and shape of the bath/toilet will decide which way the water goes down.

This. Those guys who set up sinks supposedly on the equator which show water draining in different directions have some nerve :p

do you have fluorescent lighting in the shower room?, it could be the strobe effect as the speed of the draining water changes

you are fat and your weight moved the base of the shower so the angle of everything changed and the water flowed down the other way..

water only flows in the expected direction if no other forces are acting on it (well at least enough to alter its direction)

The Coriolis effect is entirely negligible compared to slants, imperfections in the basin, etc - in short, the fact that you were in the shower would have a major effect on which way the water was spinning, and as you were unlikely to be standing completely still, that would affect the direction.

Also - Worst "I have an iPhone" thread ever!
