No "Private" Profiles on Google +

So basically the same as facebook then. Problem?

Why would you even want to be part of social networking if you dont want to give out your name?

Not really. On Facebook you don;t have to have a pic, use your name or have it that anybody can find you in a search.

Because it is a good way to keep in contact with friends, why do you have to be fully publicly listed in a directory?

If you're that concerned, pick a random name and make your profile a picture of a loaf of hovis.

I don't see how enforcing a profile pic, or showing your username is any more of an invasion of privacy than these forums letting everyone see your username and avatar.

Sorry didn't read link, just OP's post where he said you would have to show your name and sex and maybe pic and that everybody would be able to see/search them.

I assume that is not correct then and just username and any pic you want?

I hadn't read the link either :)

But it just says:

Google does require that your full name and gender be available to everyone, however.

How they enforce that your Full Name is actually your Real Name, I've no idea. So I'd assume if you don't want people to find you by your real name, then you could just use any username you wanted?

Making you show your sex is hardly a big deal. Again, it's not something they could enforce you select accurately.

As far as I can tell, people only have a problem because generally it's in their own interest to sign up with their real name and an actual photo of them as their pic, so that people can easily find them. But if you're concerned about privacy, then I see no reason why you can't sign up in exactly the same way as a forum, and make people find you through a made-up username.

I am sure that there is multiple people online with my name. So if all you can see is my name and Sex then you do not know it is me.

I would only be worried if my name was Reginald Edward Butthurt Iqbal and I was a girl :p

You're life's still essentially private with this, isn't it? A simple display picture/name/sex is hardly super secret stuff. As with the Facebook shock, I find it hard to see how people get so worked up about this kinda thing.

Oh I know that, I hardly care about that sort of info being on display. I was replying to his post that said you shouldn't use any of the social networks at all if you're concerned with your private life being 'out there'. However, the fact is privacy really isn't a concern if you go about it correctly (Facebook, at least).

' Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon. '

Too many people signing up after friends inviting them...

Anyway, your name is important, it must be known!
