I've got some holiday days owed to me and I need to use up a few of them soonish. I'll be travelling alone. I don't want to go abroad as I'm saving up for a big trip to either Asia or the USA at some point in the future.

Where would you go? I'd like to get out of the city for a few days. I don't want to go camping or stay in a hostel. I think those are my only criteria.

Flying to Europe is probably cheaper than driving somewhere in the UK anyway. Holidays in the UK are not cheap, sadly.

I hadn't thought of it like that. I just thought the UK would be more convenient.

I've got this holiday time I need to use up but I don't really want to go away anywhere. But I don't want to stay at home either as that would feel like a missed opportunity.

Jersey or Guensey?

Guernsey for sure! Cheaper and more relaxing! Plus lots of German bunkers and WW2 stuff to explore if you're into that - if not the sea food here is unbelievable!

Often ferry deals here

Some great camp sites here as well if you wanted to make it a cheaper holiday.

*sneer* Don't listen to him! j/k.
Either or, not much of a difference, depends if you want anything or like anything specific.

Seriously though, go on a European city break.

And that coming from a crapaud? :p Jersey is definitely faster paced, more like UK. Guernsey bit more relaxed.

Either islands are nice, infact we go over to Jersey a couple of times a year and enjoy it - love the new Marriot!

Makes you sick how cheap you can get over to C.I. from mainland compared to other way around

Assuming you are reasonably fit - the Lake District. There are plenty of B&Bs and it is a fantastic place to spend a few days. Make sure you take a camera with you.

I would unhesitatingly recommend Honister House in Keswick. If you have a mountain bike, even better! I have stayed there frequently :)

Easyjet LGW to Prague: Tue 19th July - Fri 22th July, £136 return, absolute bargain! You'd have a great time. Probably available cheaper than that from elsewhere / different airports / different dates too.

However if your intertia is such that you literally can't be arsed to leave the UK, then how about a surfing break in a small self-catering apartment in Cornwall (somewhere else other than Newquay). You'll come back feeling relaxed and having learnt a new skill!

However OP when you say get out of the city, do you mean get out of your city or get out of any city? If the latter, city breaks are a poor recommendation. Within the UK you could get a train somewhere then walk everywhere. With £1 buying you a massive ~€1.08, any cheap flight saving (if any) over the cost of a train or petrol, could potentially be negated by the terribly weak pound when you purchase accommodation and food on the continent. OP says no camping and no hostels so accommodation will account for a large chunk of change.
