911 [964] talk to me

I've stumbled across this lovely little thing and was curious as to the modifications.
http://pistonheads.com/sales/2825573.htm

Do these modifications add or actually detract from the value of the car?
He seems to have spent quite a lot on it in the last few years, hence the price.

Is this a wise investment?
FWIW, it won't be staying the in UK so LHD is an advantage for me.

4 owners in 10 years in the UK seems quite high, plus however many it had in Germany in the 90s..

I cant face that wall of text but here's what i think.

You wont lose money on it.

Modifications on something that old are all good because it means old parts have been changed for new parts.

Dont worry about owners, these were all bought as 2nd 3rd 4th cars / toys and people change those often.

Bear in mind these feel ancient to drive now though, but thats just an opinion of course.

if youre unsure about whether those mods are a good thing, is it really the car for you?

PS i would kill, repeatedly, for that car

The only reason I would buy it is to sell on at a profit over here.
But I won't complain if it takes 6 months to sell :D

I was just concerned that a prospective buyer might be put off by non-OEM parts, but then I don't much about these at all.

If the price is right and it's in as good condition as it seems, then it's a no brainer really. 964 Turbos are rare, let alone in a sensible colour combination.

Do you really think the weak pound makes that game worth a punt again now?

I do, but it depends on the car and it depends where you're selling it.

Most people do know how much LHD cars are worth, so on humdrum things like Passats or Mondeos you've got maybe a few hundred to a grand profit.

Sure, it's a risk, but I think it's one worth taking. How many 964 T2s are there left? It depends on the condition of this one, but this one has a lot going for it, including the history.

Worst case scenario is you have to sell at a low price and break even.
Or you can't sell the thing at all and you're stuck with €30,000 in a potentially depreciating asset.

I think that black one has done all the depreciating its going to do, so you end up with a nice new toy :)

Hi there

It is lovely, but the same money gets you a 997 S and I'd rather the newer Porsche. Still if your more into the class stuff, it seems a good buy.

I suspect insurance is going to be a problem. Just did a quote using a relatively good postocode in the UK and it came to £2500 :o

You want me to go and look at that car for you, its not far from me?

I'll take you out for a drink in Surrey in the Boxster!

Infact that comes across a bit gay :p

Can't see you losing money but surely you have to know the market and the car well enough to be able to sell for a decent profit.

Your average Belgium Jo doesn't have £25k sitting round to splash on an old 911 so you've gotta be confident you can move it surely?

PS keeping it for 6 months sounds great, but he spent £22k in 36 months so nothing to say it won't set you back a good few thousand if you can't shift it then you might actually end up losing money.

That'd be fantastic if you can be bothered.
I was thinking of going down there on Friday or Saturday but checking it out would save me two trips.

Yeah, that's the risk. However, I've got space for it so if need be I can keep it for a year, as I'll have to register and tax it anyway.
If it sells sooner, I can get a tax and insurance refund for the rest of the year.

Another advantage of having it over here means sellers may come from neighbouring countries.

I can do it Monday when im out sorting my sons car.

What do you want to do if the car is right?

I don't have the time for stone chips or scratches or scuffed splitters, but if it's mint then I guess there's only one option :)
As near as possible to £25k would make me a very happy man.
